Dr Santhakumari explains about the specialty branch of ophthalmology in Ayurveda, which is commonly known as "Netra Chikitsa". The academic qualifications and legal requirements in India to practice Ayurvedic medicine as well as the specialty branches of Ayurveda has been detailed. After the introduction, the exact role of doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha) in your eye has been explained in this podcast. Listers are introduced to the few specialty fractions of specific doshas such as chakshurvaisheshika alochakapitta, pranavayu, etc. On proceeding to the diagnosis phase of eye diseases, the podcast moves on to explain the functioning of Dhatus (Rasa, Raktha, Mamsa, Medas, Asthi, Majja and Shukla). She has a total experience of more than 40 years in the field of Ayurvedic Eye Treatments. During the first part of her career, she worked for 28 years with Government Ayurveda Medical College, Kerala. She is the recipient of "Legend Shalaki" award, which is the highest honor awarded by Legal and qualified Practitioners of Shalakya (ophthalmology and ENT Specialty of Ayurveda). She is also the first recipient of Best Teacher award from the domain of Ayurveda from Govt of Kerala.  She is also the author of "A Textbook of ophthalmology in Ayurveda". This is an approved syllabus textbook for students of B.A.M.S in India. Dr Santhakumari is the founder of Matha Ayurveda Eye Hospital.
