My Weight Loss Sauce: The Diet, Part 1

In this episode, I discuss the ingredients that make up my weight loss sauce.


  1. A LONG-TERM commitment is crucial. The lack of this ingredient is a major reason why most weight loss efforts fail.
  2. I start with diet, and make the case why a plant-based diet is the only way to go for LONG-TERM success for loss of excessive weight and maintenance of results. Such a diet has the right mix of ingredients, is rich in fiber, has a ton of phytochemicals and other protective nutraceuticals that reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer, is echo-friendly, animal-friendly, tasty, and allows for a tremendous amount of variety.
  3. Minimal or no added sugars is my next ingredient. I am talking about sweet drinks, candy, cakes, cookies, ice-cream, and other similar food items. Naturally occurring sugar (such as in fruit) is OK.
  4. Minimal or no added fats. Here I am talking about fried foods, lard, butter, margarine, mayonnaise, salad dressings, and other similar items. These are often the reason people fail, despite putting in good effort in other areas of diet.
  5. Minimal or no refined foods. These are food items that are stripped of fiber or other naturally occurring ingredients in order to increase their palatability or shelf-life. Thinks like white bread or white rice, pasta, breakfast cereals, bagels, yogurt, etc.
  6. Avoid alcohol. Alcohol not only has calories (and I'm sure you've heard of or seen beer bellies before), but it takes away our inhibitions, and with that our ability to stick to our weight loss plan usually goes out the window.
