Research suggests that setting clear intentions can help us clarify  goals, increase motivation, and enhance performance. By setting an intention, you are essentially training your brain to cooperate with you in the way you want to show up in the world. If we ignore, suppress, numb, or inflate them - that's when we get a little lost or hit a wall,  For women and nurses, often balancing multiple roles and responsibilities, emotions can signal the need for self-care, reflection, or change. Instead of perceiving feelings as impediments, embracing them as informative cues can empower individuals to navigate challenges more effectively. Whether it's the stress of a demanding shift, the emotional toll of caregiving, or the personal battles faced daily, recognizing that feelings are there to inform and guide rather than halt progress can transform adversity into growth. This perspective will help us in finding our voice and stepping into our power as leaders, even when we are not in formal positions of authority. It's AND. By learning that the destination will feel like the journey, we can focus on bringing all of our aspirations for more - learning, growing, achieving, celebrating - to the journey. We can embrace our desire to make a significant impact AND enjoy our relationships, experiences... all of it - along the way. This does not come easy, and it's harder for some than others. If we balance that out with holding loosely to the outcomes along the way - we will all just be happier people! That is not always easy, that is why I have an accountability group and a coach - to stay objective and hold space when things aren't going the way I had hoped.Who are your support people? It's like having a constant conversation with ourselves, shaping our perceptions of the world and ourselves within it.Constructive self-talk isn't about blindly chanting affirmations or ignoring reality. It's about cultivating a constructive inner dialogue that fuels our motivation and empowers us to reach for the extraordinary.Here's a framework to get you started:Awareness:  Awareness is the key to making positive changes. Do your thoughts empower you to take action and overcome challenges?Challenge Negative Thoughts: When you catch yourself thinking negatively, challenge those thoughts. Send us a Text Message.Oh, Crappy Day! We all experienced those days when waking up feels like being hit by a truck, and the idea of tackling our to-do list is daunting. It's as if a heavy cloud has descended, making even simple tasks feel overwhelming.  Fortunately, psychology has a lot to say about  why we feel this way and, more importantly, what we can do about it.Feeling overwhelmed and unmotivated often results from a mix of psychological factors. One main contributor is burnout – a state of emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion due to prolonged stress. When we push ourselves too hard without adequate rest and self-care, our bodies and minds rebel, leaving us drained. Recognizing this, we can take steps to avoid the prolonging of these low times by setting up a support system to prevent it from escalating. We can keep crappy moments from turning into crappy days, weeks or even months. We may not get to choose not ever to experience "negative" emotions, challenges, or hard times.
