Recently it so happened that the family of a UPSC aspirant from Jharkhand apologised for the misunderstanding caused in comprehending the daughter’s results. The name of the 323rd rank holder being similar to their daughter’s was misinterpreted and the daughter was announced to have cracked the prestigious UPSC Examination. The news of the girl cracking the exam had spread like wildfire, all thanks to quick media also resulting in the District Administration felicitating the girl.

If the incident had happened pre-internet era may have caused less humiliation to the parents and the aspirant compared to the shock that is experienced today. And so is the impact of media and social media in sharing the news.

‘Freedom of Speech and Expression’ is a steel-like strong and sword-like sharp weapon constituted and envisioned under Article 19 of our Constitution. But it seems like taken for granted forgetting the restriction it possesses through Article 19(3). The mode of the society has turned to burn on like a flame towards all the hate speeches and stay calm as a cucumber to unfulfilled developmental programmes guaranteed by the representatives. It may include the statement which attracted international attention with a call for genocide against Muslims or the reaction of Muslims in Jahangirpur during Hanuman Jayanti Shobhayatra or the current flame of ignitions by Nupur Sharma or the Journalist Akthar.

Based on the happening events it is stated that either politicians or media stand as an ignition for violence. The communal rift has become a TRP erupting meal for the media whereas politicians talking against other religions in spite of just speaking for one’s own religion arouses leniency towards one’s political party along setting the notion of being a religious Messiah.

The victims of all these communalism and TRP gimmicks have continued to be the youth of the nation against whom FIR is being lodged. Unlike the misunderstood results hate speeches are always a ball of fire in society. It is now that the youth of the nation has to decide on ‘whether to make the nation’ or break it with violence and inculcated communal hatred.
