Cam Ward Or Graham Mertz? Does Miami Or Florida Have the QB Edge? | Swamp Factor | Predictions

Locked On Canes - Daily Podcast On Miami Hurricanes Football & Basketball

29-08-2024 • 31 mins

Who will have the quarterback edge between Miami’s Cam Ward and Florida’s Graham Mertz? Mertz will be playing his second season with the Gators after transferring from Wisconsin in 2023. Ward will be making his Miami debut after starting the past two seasons for the Washington State Cougars. Ward packs more big-play upside, while Mertz has a history of taking care of the football. The Gators starter threw just three interceptions last season. Ward threw seven INT’s and fumbled 14 times, but threw for five more touchdowns and over 800 more yards than his Florida counterpart. How quickly has Ward acclimated to Miami’s offense and to his new Hurricanes teammates?

Host Alex Donno crosses over with Locked On Gators host Brandon Olsen to break down the quarterback matchup and other areas where the Hurricanes or Gators can find the edge. Brandon makes the case for why The Swamp in Gainesville is such a difficult place for visiting teams to win. Donno explains what he thinks Miami’s depth chart could look like on Saturday. The Gators released their depth chart on Wednesday night, and Olsen weighs in on how much he expects starting running back Montrell Johnson to play. The guys make their predictions. Both expect a close game when Miami faces Florida for the first time since 2019.
