Leap of faith into social care to training others

The Social Care Podcast - Sharing Stories

23-06-2023 • 31 mins

Join Audrey and Baggie as they chat with former social care classmate Bernie Breen, CEO of Bee Smart Training and Consultancy and Executive Director of the new residential service ‘Clover Care’.

Bernie is a qualified social care worker with a masters in Social Care Leadership and Management. She has over 23 years social care experience working in children’s services with extensive experience working within mainstream and disability sectors as well as specialised services for ethnic groups such as the Travelling Community and Separated Children Seeking International Protection and has held positions such as Director of Services and Director of Quality Assurance.

Bernie has been training  professionally for 15 years alongside her active social care practice. She is an accredited trainer in multiple areas including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention. Bernie’s key focus is on quality service provision which is trauma informed and therapeutic and led by the individual needs of the young people.

As if she isn’t busy enough, Bernie volunteers in her locality as a Community First Responder. Bernie tells her story of taking a leap of faith into the realm of social care after getting signed up for the wrong course and we chat about how to get the most value from training whether you are working on the frontline of services or managing a team.
