In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the Capitals loss to the New York Rangers. The Capitals staged a third period rally, but fell short. The Capitals have struggled to win games with Ovechkin out of the lineup. Ovechkin is out with a lower body injury. Laviolette didn’t have an update on whether Alex Ovechkin or Sonny Milano would be back in the lineup tomorrow night against Buffalo.“I have no idea,” he said. “Whatever our lineup is, it’s got to be ready and we gotta win a game.”Washington is now 0-6-0 this season without Ovechkin and has dropped the last nine games overall without their leader in the mix. The Capitals did get some great scoring and production though. Nicolas Aube-Kubel scores his fourth goal of the year to tie the game 1-1. Aube-Kubel, who signed a one-year contract extension on March 3, has 11 points (4g, 7a) in 41 games this season. Aliaksei Protas recorded the primary assist on the Capitals' first goal. Protas has set single-season career highs in assists (8), points (11) and games played (44) this season. Matt Irwin was credited with the secondary assist on Aube-Kubel's goal. In 51 games this season, Irwin has recorded four points (1g, 3a). Matt Irwin scores his second goal of the season to make it 4-2. With a goal and an assist tonight, Irwin has recorded his first multi-point game of the season and the 11th of his career. T.J. Oshie recorded his 14th assist of the season on the Capitals' second goal. Oshie has registered 14 points in his last 13 games (7g, 7a) and now has four points (2g, 2a) in two games against the Rangers this season. Sandin owns the franchise record for most assists (8a in 5 GP) in a player’s first five games with the Capitals, previously held by Geoff Courtnall (6a in 5 GP). Nic Dowd scores his 12th goal of the season to cut the deficit to 4-3. Dowd's 12 goals are a new single-season career high. Aliaksei Protas picked up his eighth assist of the season on NAK's goal and added to his career-high total of 11 points in a season. It was his first game since Feb. 12.
