Ricky Donnell "Freeway Rick" Ross (born January 26, 1960) is an American author and convicted drug trafficker best known for the drug empire he established in Los Angeles, California, in the early to mid 1980s; that turned out to be directly connected to the Iran-Contra scandal.  After a stint in prison, his reconnection with a friend turned government informant led to Freeway Rick Ross being sentenced to life in prison, though the sentence was shortened on appeal and Ross was released in 2009.  Over the past several years, this author turned prison reform activist, has ventured into the cannabis and boxing industries with the intent to rebuild his empire.
