Grief

Sober Awkward

Grief and alcohol have sadly been intrinsically linked for as long as we can remember.

It has somehow become as commonplace to get drunk at a funeral as it is at a wedding!?

Losing somebody you love can be one of the toughest things you can go through in your life. As a result, many sadly turn to the bottle. It might cost you your sobriety or it might be the trigger that begins an unhealthy relationship with alcohol altogether.

Here's the news flash though - alcohol will not help 'take the edge off' your grief.

Grief is too big, too all encompassing for alcohol to 'fix'.

In fact, it will only lengthen the painful process. Grief must be experienced sober in order to be fully processed.

We aren't saying it's easy. And we certainly aren't judging anyone that over drinks during a traumatic period of their life.

Vic and Hamish are instead here to try and learn lessons from those who have experienced grief more than them.

We share some of the tips and tricks we have picked up along the way.

And Hamish takes a look at how we might improve our skills in helping others through their grief so they never feel the need to resort to drinking.
