I am joined by Isobel Gorden who is a trauma-sensitive therapist who talks about her experiences of being married to a narcissistic alcoholic. She shares how being in a relationship with a narcissist can influence your whole life. You will also learn that being in such relationships can be difficult to identify as narcissists are usually very good at manipulating and lying. They are also very clever at masking it until you are deep into the relationship. By this point, you are likely to have some sort of brainwashing and emotional abuse that causes you to doubt yourself and your decisions. You will also have probably been emotionally and psychologically beaten down so you find it hard to leave the relationship.
While this episode is not about sharing some sort of diagnosis of what it means to be a narcissist, you will learn to identify some of the red flags. These flags shouldn’t be ignored as the deeper you get involved with such people the more damaged you are likely to become. The emotional scares that follow can hurt for years to come, and in many cases will affect your self-worth and confidence. Given the tactics used by narcissists, you may also find that your self-clarity has been affected. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and you can heal and move past the trauma. You will however need to be ready to leave that situation as healing cannot occur when you’re still in such a toxic environment.
If you feel that you’ve been affected by any of the above, I would love to offer you a free 30-minute coaching call. CLICK HERE to schedule it at a time that suits you. My token of appreciation for being a listener to this podcast!
