The Calgary Flames trounced VGK at home last week 7-2. Granted the Golden Knights were coming off a five-game road trip, but VGK lost a physical battle. For a second game the Golden Knights Phil Kessel set the tone with an early goal and VGK held on for a 4-3 road win in Vancouver Tuesday night. The Canucks were sloppy early and two turnovers led to Kessel's goal and a goal for red-hot Reilly Smith who has a nine-game scoring streak. Four players, including two goaltenders, could return to the VGK lineup during the three-game road trip in Canada, which begins Tuesday night in Vancouver. Netminders Logan Thompson and Laurent Brossoit are back as are Nic Roy and Keegan Kolesar. A third goalie, the veteran Jonathan Quick is also on the trip. Cassidy said Monday that he wasn't sure who would start the opener in the crease, or if all three goalies would see time. Thomson last appeared in a game on February 9. He has a record of 20-13-3. Laurent Brossoit played in just three games. Roy hasn't been in the lineup since the Chicago game on February 21. Kolesar has been out of action for ten days and should find is spot available amongst fourth line starters on Tuesday. Jack Eichel scored a hat trick Sunday to lead the Golden Knights past Columbus 7-2. The VGK offense erupted for five straight goals, including four in the second period, in the romp. VGK gave up its most goals in a game this season by falling to the desperate Calgary Flames 7-2 at the Fortress Thursday night. The win was the first in nine tries at T-Mobile Arena for the Flames. The stage belonged to Quick on Saturda as he recorded his 58th career shutout with a 4-0 blanking of the Hurricanes. He had 33 saves and is 3-0 since joining the Golden Knights after the all-star break. Sunday, Patera stopped a Blues comeback late by saving 30 of 33 shots in his first NHL win. VGK began its five-game road trip with a 2-1 loss in South Florida Tuesday night. The Golden Knights had a slow start for the second time in three games, and the Florida Panthers took advantage by scoring twice in the opening period. VGK will face a desperate Florida Panthers team that is in must-win mode in 11th place in the Eastern Conference and just three points out of a playoff position. The Vegas Golden Knights Thursday acquired veteran goaltender Jonathan Quick in a trade with Columbus for Michael Hutchinson. The Vegas Golden Knights have swung a deal for a former division rival, landing ex-LA Kings goalie, two-time Stanley Cup champ and Conn Smythe winner Jonathan Quick from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Michael Hutchinson and a seventh-round draft pick. The Golden Knights bounced back following their road loss to Colorado earlier this week. Jack Eichel scored twice and Reilly Smith tallied the game-winning goal in VGK's 3-2 win over visiting Carolina. It was Smith's first goal in 8 games and he scored with a little over three minutes remaining in regulation. Eichel remains hot and he has been in a groove following the All-Star break scoring 11 points in in nine games. The Golden Knights, Wednesday, also made a trade with the Penguins for Teddy Blueger, a checking centerman, in exchange for Peter DiLeberatore and a third round pick in 2024. Blueger will get a start on the fourth line on Friday night when VGK faces the New Jersey Devils. The Golden Knights also appear to be the frontrunners to land goalie Jonathan Quick, who was traded to Columbus Tuesday night. Another goalie is down for VGK. This time it's Laurent Brossoit as he was placed on the I.R. Tuesday. VGK is in a bind with 22 games remaining. Adin Hill is the new #1 goalie and Michael Hutchinson is his backup. We don't know when Logan Thompson will return and Brossoit, who has played very well since his call-up, will be out for a minimum of two games. VGK has more than $7 million in cap space and their priority should be to get a playoff tested goaltender. Wednesday night VGK will entertain Carolina in a battle of two divisional leaders. The Canes have had a couple of recent win streaks of seven and five games. Sebastian Aho and Martin Necas lead in point scoring for the Canes. Bruce Cassidy is familiar with Rod Brind'Amor, as the Hurricanes knocked Cassidy's Bruins out of the playoffs last season in seven games. On Monday's show we talked about the Colorado Avalanche's knack to score not only the first goal in games, but they had a two-game streak of scoring the opening goal on their very first shot. On Monday, the streak was extended after VGK goalie Adin Hill turned the puck over and handed a goal to Mikko Rantanen just :14 into the game. That turned out to be the winning goal in a dominant performance by the Avs. The Golden Knights never recovered. Bruce Cassidy said he felt his VGK team got pushed around in the offensive zone and were pushed off pucks all night. Monday marked the debut of recent acquisition Ivan Barbashev. He started on the top line and replaced Paul Cotter. Earlier Monday, VGK announced goalie Laurent Brossoit is out with a lower body injury and is listed as day-to-day.
