It’s been 5 years since the Puttaswamy judgement on privacy. India’s data protection bill which came about as a result of this judgement has been in the works for the past 4 years. There has been a lot of pushback against some sections of the bill by privacy advocates and tech companies. This bill was recently withdrawn from parliament citing the need for a more comprehensive review. While we wait for a comprehensive data protection framework, Bharath Reddy talks with Bhavya Birla about what you can do to safeguard your data and privacy online.
Bhavya Birla is a Research Associate at The Dialogue. He pursued his undergraduate degree in law from Symbiosis Law School, Noida and holds diplomas in Cyber Law and International Law & Diplomacy from GLC, Mumbai and Indian Society of International Law respectively.
