Come, Lord Jesus: Replace our Shame with Your Guilt

Come, Lord Jesus: Replace our Shame with Your Guilt
Thanks for joining us for our December message series at GPC-Chambersburg called "Come, Lord Jesus." Today's message from Pastor Lawrence Metzler.Advent Devo:Today, we light the third candle of Advent, the candle that represents joy. Joy is not feeling, like happiness, that is dependent upon our circumstances or emotions. Joy is a gift from the Lord, and so is grace – God’s unconditional love for His children. The family tree of Jesus contains some messy, embarrassing, and shameful material that seems to be intentionally included in the “Christmas Story.” The truth is, we have all had moments that we never thought would, or could, happen in our lives, and we certainly hoped the would never become public. When we read Matthew 1, we learn that Jesus came from sinners for sinners, which means nobody is beyond His grace. So today we pray, “Come, Lord Jesus. Replace my shame with your grace.”Lord, may the light of today’s candle be a reminder of the good news and great joy of Jesus’ birth that we celebrate in this season. I pray that we would rejoice in You always because You are near and that we would go to You with all the burdens of our hearts, laying them down in exchange for Your promised gifts of peace, joy, and grace. Amen.Learn more about Christmas Eve at Grand Point Church at www.grandpoint.church/christmasConnect with us at www.grandpoint.churchWatch online on YouTubeFollow us on Facebook and InstagramSign up for our free weekly newsletterConnect with us at www.grandpoint.churchWatch online on YouTubeFollow us on Facebook and InstagramSign up for our free weekly newsletter
Come, Lord Jesus: Replace Our Fears with Your Peace

Come, Lord Jesus: Replace Our Fears with Your Peace
Thanks for joining us for our December message series at GPC-Chambersburg called "Come, Lord Jesus." Today's message from Pastor Lawrence Metzler.Advent Devo:Today, we light the second candle of Advent, the candle that represents peace. When our lives feel battered by storms and our days feel like a constant dance of one step forward, two steps back, our hearts long for peace. We search for anything that will give us a break from the crashing waves, and we attempt to create solutions that will calm the winds or help us get just one step ahead. But the peace we crave will never be found in anything we can do on our own. True peace, the kind that sticks around when the storms come, is found in our decision to choose faith in the face of fear.  John 16:33 offers this encouragement from Jesus: “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” 1 Corinthians 14:33 reminds us that God is a God of peace. Whatever fear steals from you, God wants to replace it with peace that passes all understanding. And so we say, with faith that God loves us and keeps His promises, “Replace my fear with Your peace.” Lord, may the light of today’s candle be a reminder to hold firm to our faith in You, our God of peace. I pray that You, the source of our hope, will fill us completely with joy and peace because we trust in You. Fill our hearts to overflowing with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. God, replace our fear with Your peace.
