Come, Lord Jesus: Replace our Shame with Your Guilt
Thanks for joining us for our December message series at GPC-Chambersburg called "Come, Lord Jesus." Today's message from Pastor Lawrence Metzler.Advent Devo:Today, we light the third candle of Advent, the candle that represents joy. Joy is not feeling, like happiness, that is dependent upon our circumstances or emotions. Joy is a gift from the Lord, and so is grace – God’s unconditional love for His children.The family tree of Jesus contains some messy, embarrassing, and shameful material that seems to be intentionally included in the “Christmas Story.” The truth is, we have all had moments that we never thought would, or could, happen in our lives, and we certainly hoped the would never become public. When we read Matthew 1, we learn that Jesus came from sinners for sinners, which means nobody is beyond His grace. So today we pray, “Come, Lord Jesus. Replace my shame with your grace.”Lord, may the light of today’s candle be a reminder of the good news and great joy of Jesus’ birth that we celebrate in this season. I pray that we would rejoice in You always because You are near and that we would go to You with all the burdens of our hearts, laying them down in exchange for Your promised gifts of peace, joy, and grace.
