Furthermore, the portrayals of Black people throughout the media has not only affected how the world sees Black people but how we see ourselves. Perhaps the greatest assault that the media hit Black America with is the assault on Black Love. In the Black American community division is nothing new.  Colorism, classism, and status symbols are all maladies that affect our unification. Throughout the history of Black America there have been many conversations had and many that still need to be had.  With the advent of the subculture of violence perhaps no greater gulf in Black America has emerged than the argument on Black Cops and Black Drug Dealers. Do you love yourself? If you asked me this a few years ago I would have said of course. However, through growth and development I realized that I didn't love myself holistically. When we are hurt by someone, we want to know that they get hurt back. We want to know that they are suffering. However, we may never know what's really going on in their lives unless were right there and most likely this won't be the case. When someone violates you, revenge is the most natural thing, but it isn't the best thing usually. Through learning and experience we know revenge is best served cold. Furthermore, trying to make someone suffer might only make you suffer. Trying to wait for someone to suffer you'll be forever suffering. Terrence Martin is currently serving as President of the Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT), a union committed to providing Detroit’s students and their families with safe, thriving and welcoming public schools. Martin was elected to this position in November 2018.  Before being elected as president, Martin was serving in the capacity as Executive Vice President.  An outspoken advocate for social, educational and economic justice in the city of Detroit, Martin has spent the past decade fighting for students, educators and the people of Detroit. He is a native of Detroit and attended Detroit public schools.
