During his tenure with the army he won the prestigious Sena medal for Gallantry in 1999, and went for 2 foreign assignments; the first one was a United Nations Observer (Peace Keeping Operations) in 2006-07 & the second one was as the Chief Instructor of the Royal Bhutan Army in 2012. What's more interesting about Col. Rajeev is his work after serving in the Indian Army. He joined the globally acclaimed NGO, Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) as their India Development Manager in August 2019. Ever since the Corona Virus lockdown, he along with few other active citizens from Dehradun started helping the daily wagers & migrant workers to survive as they had no savings or source of income. During the same period, he came to know about & helped the Van Gujjars. Van Gujjars are predominantly a nomadic tribe of Buffalo herders inhabiting the foothills of Himalayan states like Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand & parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. They have been given the status of Scheduled Tribe (ST) by some state governments. Recently he became active in the Save Thano movement, Thano Forest range is a lush green forest area deeply rich in flora & fauna. The forest houses 104 types of birds and primarily has tall Sal trees. The Uttarakhand government has got the approval of National Wildlife Board to clear 243 acres of forest land which roughly has 10,000 trees. The land will be then used to further develop and expand the Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun airport). The citizens of Dehradun and nearby areas have been openly protesting against the clearance which is highly insensitive towards mother nature. The young activists are pushing the government to find an alternative sustainable solution, they also recreated the famous "Chipko Movement" of 1973, organized nukkad nataks as a part of the protest.
