is God in his holy habitation. —Psalm 68:5“I will live in them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people… and I will be your father, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” —2 Corinthians 6:16b, 18
The OT refers to God as Father 13 times
Jesus referred to God as His Father over 150 times and spoke of God as being OUR father 30 times.
4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. —Deuteronomy 6:4-9
Biblical Parenting is intentionally teaching our kids about God
20 And those twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, Joshua set up at Gilgal. 21 And he said to the people of Israel, “When your children ask their fathers in times to come, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 22 then you shall let your children know, ‘Israel passed over this Jordan on dry ground.’ 23 For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan for you until you passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up for us until we passed over, 24 so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever.” —Joshua 4:20-244 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. —Ephesians 6:4
Paideia - the whole training and education of children (which relates to the cultivation of mind and morals, and employs for this purpose now commands and admonitions, now reproof and punishment) It also includes the training and care of the body.
. —Hebrews 12:5-1116 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. —2 Timothy 3:16-17Whoever spares the rod hates his son,
but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him —Proverbs 13:2418 Discipline your son, for there is hope;
do not set your heart on putting him to death. —Proverbs 19:1812 for the Lord reproves him whom he loves,
as a father the son in whom he delights. —Proverbs 3:12
Discipline is necessary to Godly parenting
Hypocrisy is the number 1 reason kids leave their faith
