Why You Are Shackled by Self-Doubt and How to Break Free - 300
This show was prompted by the question of a podcast listener, but reflected a recurring issue with people that I work with.  My clients have written great books, become accomplished experts in their field and have a big message to share, but when it comes to sharing their views in person or on stage, a number of them begin to doubt themselves. It shows up in the content they share and how they share it, and it will end up undermining their authority, authenticity and the value and credibility of their message in the eyes of the audience.  It also surfaces in the way that they approach gig outreach, sometimes making assumptions and barricading doors before they’ve even attempted to open them. Fortunately, I’m able to help them deal with this, and I want to help you too. That’s why in this show, I’m going to share some ideas of why this might be happening based on my experience of working with many, many speakers, some new perspectives and some practical tools to get you out of the shackles of self-doubt.  I want you to be bold, audacious and confident in sharing your message! Enjoy! What you’ll learn: The recurring problem that a listener and others have with self-doubt. Why the vessel shouldn’t matter when it comes to good ideas. What we have in common with Eddie Brock. How ‘bad stories’ destroy your dreams. The power in harnessing your imagination. How self-doubt shows up in your speakingActions to master your mindset. Why you can’t tell anyone anything. The power of unreasonable excitement. The importance of congruence in all aspects of your performance. How to become the most powerful person in the world. Why USPs Don’t Work and What Speakers Should Focus on Instead with Chantal Cornelius - 299
Do you feel resistance when you hear the word marketing? So many people do. They have hang ups and beliefs about marketing and it can get in the way of them being able to achieve success in their business and as a speaker.  I get it though, marketing can feel complicated, overwhelming and confusing. But it doesn’t have to feel that way. What if it could feel clear, and light and simple? Because marketing is about showing your audience the problem you can solve for them, and  making sure you stay front of mind, for when they decide to get that problem solved. That’s what I’m hoping you get a sense of today, from my straight talking guest Chantal Cornelius.  Chantal has been helping service businesses attract new clients since 2000. She also speaks to audiences around the world, showing them how to understand the emotional buying decisions made by their clients and how that translates into a stand out strategy for them. Chantal also happens to be National President of the Professional Speaking Association, (at the time of this episode), so not only does she have golden nuggets to share about how to market yourself, but she has some speaking tips too!   What you’ll discover: How 7 year old Chantal started her on her quest to stand out.Why Chantal believes that USPs don’t work. How Chantal discovered the marketing strategy that works for her audience. What changes she has made to her marketing as a result. The test results for my marketing strategy revealed Iive. Ideas for effectively measuring your marketing. The three most important things that speakers need to get right with their marketing. How Chantal started speaking and ended up becoming the National President of the Professional Speaking Association. The three things that make a speaker memorable in Chantal’s experience.   All things Chantal: https://appletreeuk.com/take-the-test/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/chantalcornelius/ https://appletreeuk.com/products/stand-out-strategies/   Resources: Grab Your From Blank Page to Stage Guide and Nail the Topic for a Client Winning Talk Straight To The Top by Sarah Archer   Thanks for listening!   To share your thoughts:                                                   Share this show on X, Facebook or LinkedIn. From the Curious Encounters of Forensic Psychiatry to Cruise Ship Speaking with Rhona Morrison - 298
Have you got dreams of turning your years of experience, knowledge and wisdom into a new career as a speaker? Well that’s exactly what Dr Rhona Morrison did.  She is a retired Forensic Psychiatrist, who worked in the NHS for 32 years, and the author of ‘I don’t talk to dead bodies’.  Her book takes you beyond the sensationalist headlines to show you just what happens in a world where mental illness occasionally makes good people do bad things. Rhona shares her often funny,  at times downright bizarre, but consistently thought provoking  experiences of delving into the minds of the real offenders she worked with as a leading forensic psychiatrist.  Born and bred in Scotland, into a working-class family, she has a grounded approach to life, with a generous helping of humour.  In this show you’ll find out about her writing journey and how transitioned from psychiatrist, to author, to cruise-ship speaker. Unlocking the Cheat Code to Better Health and Performance with Margie Chavasse - 296
Imagine the scenario, you’ve turned up to a speaking gig, or important presentation and your stomach is playing up, or you’re feeling foggy, and it’s not because you had a heavy night out. It’s just that it happens, and often at the most inconvenient times, and you don’t know why, and your Doctor hasn’t been able to tell you either.  So instead of feeling energised and ready to wow your audience, you’re feeling uncomfortable, maybe even embarrassed if your stomach has swelled up, and worried about delivering a sub par performance as a result. I’ve had some stuff like that happen to me in the past, and I hated not feeling on top of my game. I also couldn’t get a solution, until a friend referred me to Margie Chavasse. Margie is a holistic health practitioner using kinesiology, and she helps people overcome health issues that no-one else takes seriously. She’s here today to share a different view on health, and some tips for staying healthy that might be a gamechanger for you and your performance.    What you’ll discover: Why Margie made the switch from Finance Director to Alternative Health PractitionerThe signals your body is sending that most people ignore. How the minor health niggles you’re ignoring could be impacting your success and quality of life. Why conventional medicine doesn’t always have the answers. Why the aches and pains of old age are a myth. How your gut affects your head and brain fog.The three most important things people can do to maintain their health and performance. The resistance that Margie encounters and how she overcomes it in her messaging and speaking.   All things Margie: Improve Your Gut Health Training  https://www.linkedin.com/in/margie-chavasse/ https://www.nrgholistichealth.com/   Books & Resources*: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey   Resources: Grab Your From Blank Page to Stage Guide and Nail the Topic for a Client Winning Talk Want to get better at finding and sharing your stories then check out our FREE Five Day Snackable Story Challenge   Thanks for listening!   To share your thoughts:                                                   Share this show on X, Facebook or LinkedIn. Breaking the Silence with Don Ryan - 293

Breaking the Silence with Don Ryan - 293
Please be aware that this episode does discuss the topics of death and suicide. Each of us has a story to tell, but for many people no reason compelling enough emerges for us to embark on the journey to sharing that story with others.  But for some people, there comes a time where something happens and it ignites a burning desire to share their story, so that others can learn what we’ve discovered or  avoid the pain that we’ve encountered. That is what happened to Don Ryan.  He was a regular guy with a job as a therapist, and a family, who had lost some people he loved. But when a third person he loved decided to die by suicide, Don knew, on all sorts of levels of his being, that he needed to share his story to help other people like him and contribute towards a big change. That’s when he wrote a book called, ‘The Secret Struggle: Surviving the Suicide of a Loved One’, where he pairs his personal experience of losing three members of his family with the professional insights gained across three decades of work in the social services field.  After writing the book, Don knew he wanted to turn the book into a talk, both to share his message more widely, and as a means by which people could discover his book. In this show we will talk about his journey and how he tackled creating an engaging and entertaining talk for this challenging topic.    What you’ll discover: Don’s own experience of losing someone to suicide and how it has impacted his life. Where his personal and professional experience intersect. How Don approached sharing his story and the challenges he encountered. How the current social conditioning around this topic affects the support that people get.Why the figures we have for numbers of suicides don’t reflect the real situation. The most important thing that Don believes needs to happen to start to turn the tide around this issue. The challenges Don faced in turning the book into a talk. How to make sure the audience gets relief when you are speaking about challenging topics.   All things Don: www.thesecretstruggle.com The Secret Struggle by Don Ryan on Amazon Tik Tok: @the.secret.struggle Instagram: don.ryan_the.secret.struggle Facebook: The Secret Struggle: Surviving the Suicide of a Loved One   Books & Resources*: Trinity by Leon Uris  Angla’s Ashes by Frank McCourt   Resources: Grab Your From Blank Page to Stage Guide and Nail the Topic for a Client Winning Talk Want to get better at finding and sharing your stories then check out our FREE Five Day Snackable Story Challenge Thanks for listening!   To share your thoughts:                                                   Share this show on X, Facebook or LinkedIn. The True Levers You Need to Pull for Positive Change with Ruth Taylor - 291
We are living in tumultuous times, we are facing some of the biggest challenges ever as a species, and as individual countries, organisations and people.  And despite the huge incentives to come together to work through these problems, we are in a lot of ways more divided than ever before.  Many speakers today are talking on some of these big topics and wicked problems, looking to shift audience perspectives and inspire them to get into action and make positive change happen. To achieve this, conventional wisdom has suggested that we need to incentivise people to make a change by tapping into material desires because that is what society is geared to admire and aspire to.   But what if that isn’t true, what if there are more powerful levers to pull to effect change? My guest, Ruth Taylor, is going to share another perspective on drivers for change that will help you share your message with more power and impact. Ruth has worked in the field of social and environmental change for close to 15 years. She is driven by the question of how more people can be encouraged to think, feel and act differently when it comes to the multiple and interconnected challenges we are experiencing globally.  Currently, Ruth splits her time between working for the Common Cause Foundation, a small not-for-project working to rebalance the values we see championed in our cultures, and as a freelance narrative strategist, supporting a range of different organisations from NGOs to cultural institutions to consider how their work could help shift harmful narratives towards more regenerative and just alternatives. Ruth also loves to write and her work can be found on Medium. I know you are going to get a lot of food for thought here, so listen up!   What you’ll discover: Ruth’s journey into social change. What ‘narrative change’ is all about. How the common cause foundation came into being. The distinction between intrinsic and extrinsic valuesWhy leveraging intrinsic values is more powerful than extrinsic values. How you should use intrinsic value led messaging to grab attention in the corporate world. What ‘woke’ capitalism is and whether it’s a good thing. Tips for speakers to make their message more transformational. The values 101 training course and what you can do next.   All things Ruth: https://medium.com/common-cause/this-barbie-wants-narrative-change-cd5693535889  https://ruthtaylordotorg.files.wordpress.com/2022/01/transforming-narrative-waters.pdf  https://www.tickettailor.com/events/commoncausefoundation https://commoncausefoundation.org    Books & Resources*: Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. The Truth Prescription - Hacking Your Health with Dr Brooke Bussard MD - 289
All of us want to be healthy, happy and live a long and active life, but getting clarity on how to achieve that is a struggle. The information we get is often tainted by corporate interests pushing us in the direction of their products or pills, and all of this can leave you feeling like you’re in a maze full of dead ends, getting spun around with no way to find the right path to wellness. In the meantime, many of us are getting diagnosed with obesity and chronic diseases that can feel like a prison sentence.  When I heard Dr Brooke Bussard speak, it felt like there was light at the end of the tunnel. I had so many ‘aha’ moments that I felt sure my head would explode!  Brooke qualified as an MD in internal medicine, so that she could help to make people better. However, despite all her medical knowledge, she couldn’t find out what was causing her own chronic pain.  One day she had her own light-bulb moment, and it changed the trajectory of her life and the tools that she used to make people well.  She is a sought-after speaker, author, and member of The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.  I am so thrilled to have her on the show, so that she can share more about how she engages her audiences and clients, and transforms them from confused consumers to empowered eaters.  Enjoy! When I met David Van Bennekum on Linked In and he told me he’d written a self-help book on National Security, I thought ‘That’s a bit unusual, followed by blimey he’s got some guts … that’s a challenging topic’.  My curiosity was well and truly piqued though, so I had a look at his LinkedIn profile and saw that he was a former United States Marine Corps Infantry and Logistics Officer. He was a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan and he’d retired from active service as a Lieutenant Colonel.  Then I saw that besides that, he had a law degree and also a Masters in National Security Law from Georgetown University. He obviously had the knowledge, but as I messaged him back to find out more, I’m not going to lie … based on previous conversations with some ‘experts’, I was fully expecting him to bore the pants off me! But … the opposite happened. When he started sharing about it, he didn’t waffle on about facts and stats, no … he made me laugh and even better, gave me a light bulb moment about something truly important.  And that’s when I knew I had to get him on the show, because being able to make something complex, technical and difficult, engaging and relatable to an audience, is a key skill for writers and speakers.  If you want to get a different perspective on how to make your subject more entertaining, then sit back and listen ‘cause you’ll love this show.    What you’ll discover: Why David decided to write the first self-help book on National SecurityHow he decided on the big idea of the bookWhy people are sceptical about it and how he addresses that. Why the six degrees of Kevin Bacon game is relevant to National SecurityDavid’s definition of National Security and why he thinks it applies universally. What he means by ‘true community’How he approached making the topic entertaining and relatable, and why this was so critical. Some examples of his approach in action. Where speaking fits into the picture.   All things David: https://store.bookbaby.com/book/searching-for-true-community  https://www.linkedin.com/in/dvanbennekum/  X:  @dvanbennekum   Books & Resources*: Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens   Resources: The Hookology Workshop - Making Sure Your Talk is Captivating From the Start Grab Your From Blank Page to Stage Guide and Nail the Topic for a Client Winning Talk Get a Powerful Talk Structure - Join the Masterclass Want to get better at finding and sharing your stories then check out our FREE Five Day Snackable Story Challenge Practice your speaking & test your content in a safe space in The Speaking Club ‘Live’ Membership Want to create a signature talk that sells, then check out our Nail Your Signature Talk in 60 Days programme.  Want to find out about working with me 121 then book a call here. https://www.saraharcher.co.uk   Thanks for listening!   To share your thoughts:                                                   Share this show on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn. License to Thrill… Your Audience - 285

License to Thrill… Your Audience - 285
The other day I had a talk planning call with a potential client, and he said: “I just want to get consistent results. Sometimes I start my talk and I can feel the energy shift, and I know I’ve engaged them. But other times, I just can’t get their attention, and I want to understand how to do this consistently every time I speak.” The truth is that grabbing your audience’s attention in the right way, (or ‘hooking’’ them in, as I call it), is one of the biggest stumbling blocks for a successful talk. The first 180 seconds of your talk is perhaps the most crucial, and that’s because in those two to three minutes you are communicating a lot to your audience without even realising it.  In this show, I’m going to show you how to make the most of that time, and to avoid the bear traps I so often see speakers falling into at the start of their talk.  Enjoy! What you’ll learn: The messages you are communicating to your audience before you even start speaking. The big mistakes a lot of speakers make with the start of their talk. Why you should go for quantity over quality when you are looking for great ideas. The questions you should ask yourself before you ‘settle’ for a talk title, open and close. Why you should be provocative and what to do after. If you want to be heard stay out of the ‘herd’The way to make your talk unique. Making Your Brand Uniquely You with Becky Benfield-Humberstone - 283
Not too long ago I heard one of the gurus in my space say that one of the big factors in his success is that when everyone else ‘zigs’, he ‘zags’. You can see ‘zigging’ going on all around you, suddenly everyone wants to be a neurodiversity expert, or an AI expert, because that’s what’s hot, because they are chasing the trend.  But what if you don’t do that? What if you go your own way, and stay true to who you are and who you want to help?  That is the path that Becky Benfield-Humberstone has chosen right from the get go. A born entrepreneur, Becky left school at 16 to start her own super niched business, Utterly Horses, which became the largest model horse stockist (yes, it’s a thing) in Europe, with a product range of over 2,500 items that retailed to a customer base of over 50,000 people and corporate clients. After successfully exiting that business in 2018, Becky wanted a new challenge.  That’s when she created Brand Artisan, and in that business she has been helping business owners bring their visions to life, stand out, and exponentially grow their businesses. She is joining me here to talk about all things branding, storytelling and marketing, and I know you are going to pick up some golden nuggets from her.    What you’ll discover: How Becky started an international business at 16.The problem Becky solves today. The difference between brand strategy and marketing strategy. Why keynote speakers need a brand. The big branding you might be making in business. Where stories fit into the work Becky does. Why Becky bucks the trend and only works with one client at a time. Where speaking fits in.Why Becky created the Founders project and how you can get involved.    All things Becky: www.thebrandartisan.co.uk www.postcardsfromafounder.com @beckybenfieldhumberstone @postcardsfromafounder   Books & Resources*: The One Minute Millionaire by Mark Victor Hansen and Robert G. SHOW NOTES If people believe that you can deliver what they want and need, they will book you to speak, or buy your products or services. But in showing them that you can deliver there's a fine line between confident and cocky, and if you cross that line, it can push people away… and you don’t want that.  So … how do you show authority without shoving it in people’s faces? Well that’s what I’m going to talk about today. Here’s what this show will cover: A definition of authority in this context The five ingredients for building authority authentically Why you need to convince yourself first and how to do it The next level of self-awareness that has made all the difference to me Why ‘it has to be ‘you’ - 100% of the time The real way to show you’re an expert Tips for breaking down barriers Enjoy! Karmic Selling - How to Win Big and Feel Good with Stan Gwizdak - 281

Karmic Selling - How to Win Big and Feel Good with Stan Gwizdak - 281
Most of us have experienced sales ‘tactics’, and likely we’ve either recoiled against them and scarpered (physically or digitally), or have gone ahead with our needed purchase, even though a little bit of shine has worn off the relationship with the person that used them on us. Our experiences have made us sceptical of anyone with something to sell, and allergic to feeling ‘salesy’ ourselves.  But whether we like it or not, we’re all in the business of selling something to someone, whether that’s ourselves as a speaker, our book to a reader, or our products and services to clients and customers. So … I guess that means you have to ‘suck it up’ and jump on the soft and hard sell bandwagon if you want to succeed. Well no … you don’t.  That’s because there is another way that will likely yield you more reward in sales and personal satisfaction than anything you’ve come across before. And that new approach is called Karmic Selling created by my guest Stan Gwizdak. Stan Gwizdak is CEO of The Kormac Group, a results-driven management consulting firm that embodies his clean heart and commitment to serving others. As a chief executive and Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Stan has spent more than 30 years leading business transformations at General Electric, BAE Systems, Honeywell, Textron, Aurora Capital, Goodyear Tire and Rubber, and more. Stan is here today to talk about Karmic Selling and the successes and failures that helped him design his system and grow his company. Whether you’re a speaker, sales executive, entrepreneur, you’ll discover why when you do good, even more good will come your way.   What you’ll discover: Why Stan believes that the traditional approach to sales needs to change. What made Stan leave a company just before he was due to take the top job.How he approached getting clients for his company without having a sales background. How he took a one man band to a business competing with the big consultancies. The problem that Karmic Selling solves for individuals and companies. The three biggest mistakes people and companies are making around this problem at the moment. The key ingredients of the Karmic Selling System and how it counters those mistakes. The first few steps you should take if you want to get started using the karmic Selling philosophy and system. How Stan is using speaking in business and to promote his book.   All things Stan: www.karmicselling.com www.kormacgroup.com   Books & Resources*: Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T.
