This week, Joosje Duk shares her wisdom on IN HER LENS! Joosje is a filmmaker and actress from The Hague and based in between Amsterdam and New York. She wrote and directed the short film NIGHT, which won the HuffPost Arts Impact Award- as well as being invited to screen at Disney’s studios. In collaboration with Dutch network VPRO, Joosje wrote and directed her first pilot GAPPIES. This led her to direct her first full web series, FITGIRLS, and her upcoming second full web series DE EDEL FIGURANT. In this episode, Joosje and Nadine talk about her journey to filmmaking, about grant applications, her rejection folder, writing short narratives, and growing alongside your work. They discuss the importance of recognizing your strengths and admitting your limitations on set.

Joosje’s short, THIN ICE, won the ShortsTV Pitch Award at the Netherlands Film Festival and screened at the Oscar-qualifying Hamptons and Atlanta Film Festival. Joosje is in development of her first feature film, SUNSHOWERS, a whimsical story exploring mental health issues through the eyes of a young woman who loses her sight of color.
