This week, Farida Zahran joins Nadine Reumer on IN HER LENS! Farida is an Egyptian writer/director and a graduate of NYU’s Grad Film Program. Her short film "Banat Akher Zaman" or "Youth" premiered at SXSW 2019 and received an Oscar-qualifying award at Palm Springs International ShortFest. She was selected for the 2019 New York Film Festival Artists Academy. Prior to grad school, Farida worked in development at the Doha Film Institute. She is currently based in Brooklyn, NY and is working on her first feature screenplay as well as a Cairo-set musical short. In this episode, Farida and Nadine talk about her experiences at film school, the international production of her short Youth, about setting boundaries for your own and other people's expectations, and about Arab representation, tokenism and self tokenism, in film and television.
