Brandon Aiyuk: "I am taking it personal," the NFL Wide Receiver opens up on latest contract talks with Niners, clarifies social media posts & latest public exchange w/ friend Commanders QB Jayden Daniels & what NFL teams are on his short list for 2024?
One of the biggest NFL off-season storylines is the contract negotiations coming from the reigning NFC Champions in San Francisco and if their star WR Brandon Aiyuk, former first round pick, will still be a 49er heading into 2024 season. Since the week after the Super Bowl, his contract has been a hot topic with constant media coverage, rumors, and social media buzz. Adding fuel to the fire, there are speculations that Aiyuk might reunite with his former ASU teammate and close friend Quarterback Jayden Daniels at the Washington Commanders… And the Pivot in partnership with Fanatics uncovers the truth and cuts through the noise.  In today's episode, sitting with the source himself, Ryan, Channing and Fred have a conversation with Brandon Aiyuk around what's true, what's not and ask the looming question- will a new deal be done before training camp ? Or does Aiyuk have his sights set on a short list of NFL teams he feels he can be the X factor on. Brandon explains the why behind the viral face time post of him and his long-time friend Jayden Daniels and why he's taking these contract negotiations personal while sharing his true priorities and mindset as he discusses what he believes he's worth, the significance of the big dollar-signs and how he handles the pressures of these high-stakes discussions under the public eye. With an unsettling sentiment and signs of discourse between the San Francisco organization and Aiyuk since the Super Bowl loss in Feb, Brandon is setting the record straight about his emotions around the loss against the Chiefs and sharing his true thoughts in his voice without any misconstrues.  Aiyuk gives us his perspective on the state of the league, being the next domino to fall in the contract pool of wide receivers and sharing insights on quarterback Brock Purdy, his teammates and how much talent is on this 49er roster, full understanding the grass may not be greener elsewhere but he's not closing the door on reuniting with his friend and former teammate Daniels in Washington or dabbling with other teams, ofcourse with the Steelers being one Ryan hopes is on the list.   Growing up in a 49ers fan home, Aiyuk has deep love for the team but also has openness to new opportunities. Tune in for an unfiltered conversation that delves into the heart of Brandon Aiyuk's current journey, his aspirations, and the roller coaster side of professional football negotiations. Rich Paul: On earning reputation of most powerful non-owner in NBA, talks building sports & media empire from ground up, bond with Lebron James, Draymond Green, Anthony Davis, two-way contracts & Bronny James joins Lakers with his dad
"So many people want to be a part of the announcement and not a part of the investment."- Rich Paul, Founder of Klutch Sports Less than 24 hours away from the 2024 NBA Draft and all the talk is around a potential late round draft prospect, And why? Well because of the name on the back of his jersey.  The sports world is currently divided over discussions about nepotism in basketball, sparked by Bronny James' announcement that he will enter the NBA draft after just one year at USC. In the latest episode of The Pivot, Ryan, Channing, and Fred sit down with Rich Paul, founder of Klutch Sports Group and super agent not just for big NBA stars and Lebron but Bronny too, as the guys go in depth for a very telling conversation from the source himself. They dive into Rich’s long-standing relationship with LeBron James, yet their separate approaches to navigating Bronny’s entry into the NBA draft and his future career. Rich is very clear, although Bronny is considered his nephew, he is treating him as he would any of the other athletes he represents, sharing the best case scenario, discussing various approaches and details what he actually means by declining two-way contracts. Rich has made a name for himself as a leader in sports business and transcending athlete representation by doing it his own way, which has raised the bar in the industry.  Way before Rich Paul and Lebron met, Rich was hustling and grinding his way through life, from selling jerseys out of his car to becoming a prominent CEO in sports representation. He provides insights into his journey to become one of the most influential businessmen in sports, outgrowing his title of agent through his contributions in sports and entertainment growth over the years. Rich gives perspective into his philosophy as a man, agent and friend, emphasizing his consistent yet authentic approach in managing high-profile clients like LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Draymond Green as well as his female clients in WNBA led by the league's MVP A'ja Wilson. Rich prides himself in building strong personal connections both within and outside the sports industry and talks about how he will not only stick by his athletes through their successes, but will also stand in the rain with them when things get tough as he demonstrated with Draymond Green recently. This mentality isn't a front, it's just who Rich Paul is, and is best described in his book, "Lucky Me" about changing the odds and going against the grain to reach success: "You don't have to finish where you start," which is why he has earned the trust of the best of the best in basketball and paved the way for it to be a business built on people skills and relationships and not by mandated college degrees.   For continued viewing and listening of more Pivot content and unique conversations in sports and entertainment with A-list celebs, top athletes and leaders in business, Subscribe to catch new episodes of The Pivot released on YouTube every Tuesday at 12 p.m. ET and Fridays at 3:30 p.m. ET, with early release of audio available on major streaming platforms such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Amazon Music. Pivot Special: Conversation around Domestic Violence with the Cleveland Browns led by Survivor Sabrina Greenlee, mother of NFL star DeAndre Hopkins, who details becoming blind by abuse and shares painful story to create awareness/impact
A Pivot Podcast special creating conversation around Domestic Violence generating awareness and discussing preventive measures with a survivor in our NFL family, the mother of star Wide Receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Our Pivot purpose, is a commitment not just to have the fun conversations or interview A-list stars, but to prioritize using our platform to engage and challenge all of us, especially as men to look into ourselves, be vulnerable, be honest and be better as are dedicated to educating ourselves, fellow athletes, and our community on critical issues to affect meaningful change. In special collaboration with the Cleveland Browns, the NFL and Fanatics, we have an unguarded and tough conversation bringing awareness to domestic violence led by the inspiring story of survivor Sabrina Greenlee, mother of Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who bravely shares her journey that included losing her sight to unimaginable abuse.  Ryan Clark often says what he does now in his 2nd act of life is far more important than what he did in his first. Although playing in the NFL is a gift fueled by passion and hard work, the platforms created from that career and how we use them is our true calling, this episode is an example of that. In a touching and impactful conversation had live in front of the Cleveland Browns organization, Ryan, Channing, and Fred create a space for Sabrina to speak candidly about her experiences, barring her wounds and scars both physically and emotionally as she takes us all through her life changing journey. Painful and hard to hear at times, Sabrina’s stories and openness to cut through and speak directly to the root of reality and truly move a room full of men to understand abuse in all forms and the effects it has on victims but their loved ones too.  Sabrina, representing mothers, sisters, daughters and all females in our lives, shares her message and preventative hopes with the team and challenges each of the men in the room to be better, wiser and leverage their NFL platform for positive change. Ryan explains how the NFL locker room is the most forgiving place in the world but also needs to become the most accountable place, checking every person to be an example.  She also engages in a heartfelt Q&A with players, where they discuss the impact of domestic violence on their loved ones and seek guidance on supporting survivors. We hope this episode can provide awareness for a topic that holds a place in our hearts with importance and unfortunately a necessary one to explore as we continue to minimize these types of stories and create a world of zero tolerance for abuse.  To learn more about Sabrina Greenlee and her non-profit organization S.M.O.O.O.T.H, visit https://www.sabrinagreenlee.coand https://www.smooothinc.org and purchase her book Grant Me Vision: A Journey of Family, Faith and Forgiveness to learn more about her touching and inspiring journey. Antonio Brown life after NFL, dealing w/ traumas, explains his controversial social media platform CTESPN, Hall of Fame talent & parenting
A repeat appearance on The Pivot is rare, but so is today's guest- a rare talent, a rare personality and a rare gift to authentically always be himself no matter what or who has something to say, he stands by his words and owns his lifestyle.  Once known for his Hall of Fame highlights on the field, former NFL star, Antonio Brown, is now equally known for his headlines away from the game in retirement. Whether it be his boisterous personality, his unusual relationships with various celebrities, his financial woes or his latest media platform CTESPN, AB is no stranger to controversy or being in the spotlight for his questionable comments and choices over the years.   With recent stories of Brown filing bankruptcy after earning nearly $80M during his NFL career and increasing criticisms over his social media distribution of contentious words around athletes, sports and hot social topics.  In partnership with Fanatics, Ryan, Channing and Fred sit with Antonio for a conversation covering it all, from his storied football journey, to miscues to personal evolution to public perception to what is really going on in the life of the famed football star.  Ryan starts the episode by addressing his former Pittsburgh teammate from a place of respect but one of genuine care and concern asking how Antonio Brown the human is holding up mentally, physically and emotionally. And in a place of authenticity and humility, AB opens up, admitting that he never realized how much trauma you go through in being great and acknowledges the pain and real traumas that he endured as a football player and in everyday life as a human being.  Through therapy and reflection, Antonio shares how he has been able to put his thoughts and experiences into words, which led him to creating his viral X account CTESPN. "It's always when people don't understand- you're crazy." Antonio shares with the guys as Fred points to people being worried about the former wide receiver and Channing questions if the CTESPN platform does more harm than good because of how thoughts are communicated, often radical, racial and in raw expression. He says it's for entertainment but also for honestly and accountability, as athletes face public scrutiny and media sensationalizing all the time, but when he says something, it's often criticized with a different lens as AB gives the recent example of Sports Personality Pat McAfee calling Caitlin Clark a "white B word' and it being quickly forgiving yet he feels he is held to a tougher standard for a joke he made months back. Ryan inquires further into the purpose and future of the social media platform as the group discusses the inherent challenges in balancing public perception with personal growth.  Turning to football, the guys talk about the tangible talents of Antonio as one of the greatest wide receivers of this era and point to his Hall of Fame eligibility coming up in 2027, the same year as his Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, in which he hopes the tandem can go into Canton together. Fred asks if his tactics off the field will taint his chance of getting a gold jacket as Antonio pushes back saying one has nothing to do with the other, "If you think AB is not a hall of famer, put on the tape." AB gives his thoughts on Justin Jefferson's record breaking NFL contract as well as the top 5 guys playing the position in the league right now and what skill set is most important for success on the field. Antonio addresses recent media reports regarding his financial situation. explaining in his own words and expressing how he feels misjudged and misunderstood but is embracing this next chapter of his life story, with a primary focus of being a present father, and enjoying his children being bigger, better versions of himself, what legacy is all about.  New episodes of The Pivot are released every Tuesday at 12 p.m. ET and Fridays at 3:30 p.m. ET on YouTube. Sharing insight into his marriage with Mariah Carey and private intricacies of their relationship, Nick doesn't shy away from personal struggles he faced with his dream girl and is able to reflect, pinpointing the painful moment he realized he had to Pivot in order to regain himself. From creating Wild N’ Out to his days on America's Got Talent to now hosting The Masked Singer, Nick has a long list of self-accomplishments on his resume, but amidst the accolades, he remains humble, touching on how he continues to learn daily, especially from comments he made that got him “canceled.” Nick credits Will Smith as being the one person who mentored him and explains the tremendous upside of that relationship while shedding the downside of mounds of pressure put on him as well. Before wrapping, Ryan asks Nick how he handles the sensitive situations around very public Hollywood friendships he had with R Kelly and P Diddy and without hesitation but poise and grace in his tone, Nick addresses the situations directly and how he has explained the recent revelations to his children. Frank Martin: Undefeated Boxer on fight with Gervonta "Tank" Davis in lightweight title bout, pulling off the upset, reveals details of past sparring w/ Tank, advice from Floyd Mayweather & pressures of being underdog on June 15th at MGM Las Vegas
No greater event than one of sport and today we are talking a real live David vs Goliath title bout as we chat with the man who knows he's the underdog but believes he's built for this moment. Undefeated Boxer Frank Martin looks to become the new WBA Lightweight World Champion pulling off the upset win over Boxing's best and biggest star, Gervonta "Tank" Davis on June 15th at the MGM Grand Las Vegas. In partnership with Fanatics, The Pivot Podcast shares an exclusive conversation as Ryan, Channing, and Fred sit down with Frank "The Ghost" Martin as he prepares to step in the ring with Tank Davis, 29-0 and 27 KOs. Both undefeated talents in their own right, Martin opens up about being an underdog, his anticipations for the showdown, and the pivotal moments that shaped his journey to the ring. Despite boasting a perfect record of 18-0, Martin remains criminally underrated within his division, a fact he confronts head-on as he discusses his mindset approaching what is undeniably the pinnacle of his career. Delving into the origins of his nickname "The Ghost," Martin dissects the nuances of his fighting style and its potential and favorable impact when he faces Davis, Alluding to the last time the two fighters met in Vegas, a few years ago in a sparring match at The Mayweather Boxing Gym, Martin reveals what really transpired that day and how the man himself, Floyd Mayweather, pulled the two fighters apart after several grueling rounds.  Martin shares with Ryan, Channing and Fred the advice Mayweather has given him over the years and the one key piece he has kept at the forefront of his training, work when your opponent is resting and become mentally strong not just physically. Addressing the false narratives from the press conference and the trash talk spewed from his opponent, Martin turns the words into motivation and confidently tells the guys, "people think they know who I am and what I'm capable of, but have no idea, but soon they will see who Frank Martin really is." Calling the city of Detroit home, Martin's upbringing created his resilient mindset and unique athleticism, qualities that have raised his current status to become one of the sport's top talents and he explains how working with renowned boxing trainer, Derrick James, has edged even more, increasing his speed and athleticism to a level unlike anything Tank has experienced before. Martin says this moment is more than just a fight, it's for all the people who felt lost, misguided and not good enough, to know the good guy does win sometimes and this night is about the underdog.  Stay tuned for new episodes of The Pivot, premiering Tuesdays at 12 p.m. ET and Fridays at 3:30 p.m. ET on YouTube, with audio available on all major streaming platforms including Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon Music. Matt Kemp Former MLB All-Star on missing out on storied career, missing out MVP award, switching from football to baseball, teammates & mentors, living in LA, dating Rihanna and life now as a father

Matt Kemp Former MLB All-Star on missing out on storied career, missing out MVP award, switching from football to baseball, teammates & mentors, living in LA, dating Rihanna and life now as a father
As an athlete, part of the climb is reaching the top and often, fame and wealth steal the spotlight, but what's not really discussed, is how a simple game can shape one's identity and provide purpose. In a recent conversation on The Pivot, former MLB All-Star Matt Kemp joins Ryan, Channing, and Fred to unravel the multifaceted journey of life as a professional baseball player. Kemp shares a blend of funny anecdotes and honest reflections, providing a glimpse into the complexities of his career from a small town guy to the big lights of Los Angeles, and the extra pressures that came with playing in the limelight of a big city. From the challenges of adapting to life in various cities to the weight of fame under the spotlight of Los Angeles, Kemp's experiences paint a picture of the highs and lows that come with being a professional athlete. As Matt navigated the transition into retirement, He compares that time in his life to mourning a family death, juggling all the emotions of losing something you love while facing the uncertainties that lie ahead. In 2011 Matt Kemp finished second in National League MVP voting to Ryan Braun, and he talks about his reaction to later finding out Braun tested positive for PEDs that season. He won the Hank Aaron Award that year, though, and Kemp reflects on being biracial in baseball as well as the African-American mentors he had in the sport. Still tough to rationalize missing out on that feat, Matt talks about life now, and leaving the baseball to pursue mentorships and other business endeavors. Throughout the episode, Kemp provides valuable insights into broader themes such as race, identity, and the ever-evolving landscape of rookie vs veterans in the locker room. Playing for the LA Dodgers came with high expectations between living in Hollywood, access to celebrities combined with a fast pace lifestyle while putting up a league high MLB numbers, Matt shares how the pressures sometime were too much to handle and only increased as his personal life took center stage to media outlets and blogs. The guys chat about Matt's adjustment to fame- from the media’s accountability to the dating scene, which Channing can't help but ask about his relationship with superstar Rihanna. From his mom and dad helping him choose baseball in Oklahoma to Torii Hunter and Don Newcombe guiding him once he reached the majors, Kemp gives praise to the many people who helped him reach the success he had. Yet today he is no longer an active baseball player, and he talks about the unknown struggles of retirement and entering a new chapter as a dad. The Pivot on locker room bond, being good teammates, WNBA, Caleb Williams, Harrison Butker, Lebron & Bronny and checking on our loved ones
31-05-2024
The Pivot on locker room bond, being good teammates, WNBA, Caleb Williams, Harrison Butker, Lebron & Bronny and checking on our loved ones
It's Friday and the guys are back as we Pivot our way through all the hot topics of sports and entertainment starting with our own storylines straight through the top headlines of recent. But as usual, you can expect honest, authentic conversation and that locker room type of talk as Ryan, Channing and Fred will always keep it 100 even on the tough topics and being on opposite sides of issues. In partnership with Fanatics, the guys sit down with another three-man show where they talk about recent controversial comments from an NFL veteran to the state of young players entering the NBA and WNBA and more. The guys may not agree with Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker’s recent comments during a graduation speech, but they discuss the football world’s responses to a fellow NFL player speaking their mind. Ryan talks about why he disagrees with the speech itself and they each give thier takes on what it is like being a teammate to players whose beliefs don’t align with their own, as Ryan talks specifically to Jason Kelce being a good teammate, fresh out of the locker room, trying to make light of the situation and the media world reacting to it in an unnecessary way. With all of the talk surrounding Bronny James as a prospect in the NBA Draft, Channing defends the use of nepotism for Bronny to get opportunities, but he and Ryan both touch on how he has to earn his spot in the league. This is similar to Caitlin Clark and the WNBA rookies proving their stardom, and the guys discuss the WNBA’s spotlight with the league’s heated competition so far this season. The NCAA’s new regulations allowing schools to put money directly into NIL for their athletes is a boost for Power-5 student athletes, but Ryan talks about why he thinks this should have already happened. Channing and Fred also touch on the importance of financial literacy for these athletes to succeed in the long run. Just like in the NFL, NBA or any professional league, The Pivot and their team is a family, and the guys finish the show talking about the importance of checking in on one another given the recent news about PGA golfer Grayson Murray’s death.  New episodes drop on Tuesdays at 12 p.m. ET and Fridays at 3:30 p.m ET on YouTube, with audio available on all streaming platforms New York City, come meet us at Fanatics Fest NYC! Ryan, Fred, and Channing sit down for an exclusive interview with Knicks star Josh Hart as he recounts the highs and lows of his journey to New York following a season that had the Big Apple, and the entire basketball world buzzing. Robbie Chosen NFL Free Agent on Mental Health wellness, rebuilding reputation on & off the field, life changing moment, learning from Tyreek Hill in Miami and what's next for the wide receiver
In partnership with Fanatics, we bring you an episode today that is important for us all to takee a listen...Continuing the important conversation around Mental Health, Ryan, Fred, and Channing sit down with Robbie Chosen, previously known as Robbie Anderson, on his 31st birthday, the moment he marks as a new start for the NFL Free Agent. Robbie's career statistics speak volumes about his journey—having started as an undrafted free agent in 2016 to acquiring 4,000 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns, Robbie's impact on the field is undeniable. In an unguarded and honest conversation, the guys delve deep into Robbie's rollercoaster career path and reflect on his tough upbringing and early years from hard family circumstances to personal decisions to his growth. Robbie describes what it was like growing up without a father in a place full of negative temptations, and the guys ask about how he made it to the league despite the hardships around him. He talks about the moments where his path became cloudy, like being kicked out of college or having harsh sideline interactions, but puts a pinpoint on the ways in which he developed out of the labels people had for him. The former 1,000-yard receiver still says he has years on the field left in him, and Ryan touches on his admiration for how Robbie is changing his generational curses into blessings. Even with his name changes, Robbie has solidified his identity as a person and a player, but by leaning on his values and faith, he also describes his true definition of success. On a day that's all about personal introspection, Robbie takes a moment to reflect not only on his past but also on his aspirations for the future and legacy as a father, husband and teammate. DeMar DeRozan 6x NBA All Star on Mental Health, Growing up in Compton, Nipsey Hussle inspiration, bond with Kobe Bryant & never giving up
With May being Mental Health Awareness month, The Pivot has had several guests focus on emotional wellbeing from Michael Beasley to Ryan Mundy to Solomon Thomas and more as Mental health remains stigmatized in sports today, but more and more athletes are beginning to break the silence surrounding it and change cultural perception. In 2018, one NBA star released an emotion-filled tweet that created waves throughout the league, generating awareness of vulnerability while garnering support as the message and impact was felt far beyond the game. Ryan, Channing and Fred sit down with six-time NBA All-Star DeMar DeRozan to talk about his mental health advocacy as well as his journey to the league. The 15-year veteran shares stories from his upbringing in Compton, California and reflects on defining moments from his career. DeMar mentions the influence of figures like Kobe Bryant and Nipsey Hussle in his life and talks about how he is driven to inspire the next generation as well and what kept him from giving up during the darkest times. The guys ask about his trade from the Raptors to the Spurs and he reflects on the difficulty of the move, his legacy after spending 9 years in Toronto and how he handled his father's passing while the NBA pressures continued to build. Many people consider him an NBA star and an all-time clutch player, but DeMar talks about the importance of sharing real stories and being seen as a human being, which he hopes to spotlight in his upcoming book Above the Noise. DeMar touches on how a difficult environment growing up eventually caught up to him many years later by never coping with loss and how people always tend to believe ultimate highs don't come with ultimate lows. He speaks the truth about the place he comes from, and opens up to Ryan, Channing and Fred on mistruths and misconceptions sharing how Money and fame don't measure happiness but it's through experiences that strength is built and understanding is developed. Never giving up and always wanting to be a light of hope for his family, especially his children, DeMar continues to prove people wrong with his efforts off the court and teaching through conversation. Only 4 teams left in the NBA postseason as the Eastern and Western Conference Finals jump off today. Big Big Day!! As the guys said, the end of our MixTape Era now the album drops....To kick off our new partnership with Fanatics, hosts Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor, and Channing Crowder sit down with none other than the 7x Super Bowl champion and NFL icon, Tom Brady. While the world has seen glimpses of Tom's personality, most recently on Netflix's "Greatest Roast of All Time", The Pivot Podcast dives deep into who Tom really is off the football field and beyond the headlines and storylines. Reflecting on last week and his takeaways from doing the roast with former New England teammates and coaches, Kevin Hart and other celebrity comedians, Tom is learning to let go of the control he used to have as Quarterback and learning to live in the grey area of life, learning but improving on the decisions he makes each day. Fanatics and The Pivot gift TB with a special memorabilia from the 1981 NFC Championship that brings him back to the innocence of his childhood when his reality was just a dream but a dream ignited by passion for football and love for competition leading him to be one of the greatest to ever step on the field. After commanding the field for 22 years, Tom became a master of the sport, but our conversation reveals how he continues to evolve as a man, friend, and father away from the game. He discusses the importance of personal growth and reflects on the lessons learned throughout his illustrious career with a strong focus on the quality time with his kids and being there for them in anyway possible. Opening up about the profound influence his parents had on him, instilling his drive and motivation to succeed from a young age. The Pivot on comedy roasts, Tom Brady, Bill Belichick & Robert Kraft, rap beefs with Drake and Kendrick, mental health check in & big news coming
From massive rap beefs to the Roast of Tom Brady and a full media debate between football and basketball players, it’s been a week full of different controversies in pop culture. Ryan, Channing and Fred are back themselves to check in on one another and give their takes on some of the biggest stories. First, it's caps off to congratulate Freddy T, who full-filled a promise to his late grandmother of going back to college after 26 years to get his degree, a special moment for Fred and his family as well as our Pivot Family, sending an invaluable message to so many. The comedy and football scenes had a crossover with Netflix releasing the much-anticipated Roast of Tom Brady, and the guys give their reactions to the show. NFL locker rooms can have roast sessions of their own, but Ryan talks about why he could never be associated with an event like that. Channing is in the comedy scene himself, though, and he discusses how the comedians changed the way the roast was approached. In another major American sport, Austin Rivers made headlines with comments that said there are many more basketball players who could play football than vice versa. The guys agree that both take athleticism and skill, but Ryan and Fred emphasize that the difference between the sports comes from the culture of toughness, and that NBA guys could not take hits like them. In wrapping up with a talk about the Drake and Kendrick rap beef, the trio talk about how Kendrick won the battle itself before mentioning the bigger culture surrounding hip-hop. Many people attach themselves to certain figures in the spotlight, and The Pivot team is excited for fans to see what’s in store for them very soon... NFL stars are constantly in the limelight, appearing in articles, on shows and receiving large followings on social media. But this Hall of Fame Wide Receiver became a household name with one of the most iconic nicknames in sports, yet he was relatively unknown off the field.  Ryan, Channing, and Fred sit down with Hall of Fame wide receiver Calvin “Megatron” Johnson to learn more about the man Ryan refers to as the “urban legend” of football. Calvin Johnson, better known as Megatron, and one of the most iconic Wide Receivers to ever play the game talks about his Hall of Fame career despite losing seasons and how he overcame the 0-16 year in Detroit, purpose and passion for promoting cannabis and healing while sharing stories of his family, opening up about some of his dangerous hobbies and reveals why he had to retire from the NFL before marriage.   Valuing consistency over talent and understanding that those who have both consistency and talent are the unique ones as Calvin explains his journey to the guys and shares the reason of why he retired before getting married. The man who was once the most feared receiver in the league has turned his football-based lifestyle into a way of life focused around his family and other endeavors. Calvin explains walking away from the game at an early age was a move he doesn't regret although it shocked the football world, he respects the game and describes how he continues to bring a level of excellence to every facet of his life based on his mental approach to the game. He may not be Megatron anymore, but fame was never Johnson’s focus anyways as it was always about camaraderie with the guys and consistency on the field.  New episodes drop on Tuesdays at 12 p.m. ET and Fridays at 3:30 p.m ET on YouTube, with audio available on all streaming platforms including Apple, Spotify and Amazon. JJ Redick: Duke Legend, former NBA star turned TV analyst and podcaster, shares his storied journey of basketball, perseverance and rapid rise in media, recently teaming up with Lebron & answers if being a NBA Coach is next.

JJ Redick: Duke Legend, former NBA star turned TV analyst and podcaster, shares his storied journey of basketball, perseverance and rapid rise in media, recently teaming up with Lebron & answers if being a NBA Coach is next.
Ryan, Channing and Fred sit with JJ Redick to talk about how his life has revolved around hoops since an early age and as many aspects have transcended and faded over time, his love for the game and desire to be close to the sport still drives him everyday. From Duke to the NBA to basketball analyst to podcaster, the guys get JJ to open up in ways he hasn't shared before diving into his who, his why and his how and what's helped propel a white boy from Tennessee to sustain a reputation of respect and stardom in a sometimes unforgiving world of professional basketball and now broadcast television. The recent launch of his podcast “Mind the Game” alongside LeBron James shines a light on JJ's basketball IQ, but on this episode of the Pivot, the guys go far beyond his success on the court and break down where JJ's mindset comes from. With the recent buzz around JJ's next basketball move in possibly becoming the head coach of the Charlotte Hornets, the choice may not be an easy one as the sharp shooter turned media star is fully aware of who he is and the life he's created after basketball through his various platforms and authentic relationships with current and former players alike. Redick knew he wanted to be a Blue Devil after watching the 1992 NCAA championship between Duke and Kentucky, but without cable TV and money to put towards the game, he felt somewhat detached from it, but it was his family who continued to support him to fulfill his childhood dream. JJ found pride in working out of adverse situations, and he talks with the guys about how he developed his motivation and never lost that chip on his shoulder. Channing jokes with JJ about his A-hole type persona that he gives off, understanding Duke basketball players are often viewed as the enemy as JJ shares how he became the center of hate during his time with the Blue Devils. Despite his NCAA scoring title and notoriety, Redick was underestimated coming out of Duke and struggled to find a secure place in the NBA for his first few years but managed to prevail with a 15 year career. Often looking back on what he didn't do vs what he did do, JJ points to several points in his life that he faced hardships, but his awareness, ability to constantly adapt and will to never be out-worked has brought him to the position he is today. Whether it was a missed shot in the 2004 NCAA finals against UConn or a 2009 Orlando Magic NBA Finals run, JJ has always had to bounce back from hard moments but one thing that has never been questioned is who he is as a leader on and off the court. A trusted voice during dark times, an advocate of right vs wrong and an innovator in the media space has elevated JJ to a place of respect and confidence that no matter what he says or does, he stands on it even if it's controversial or the unpopular thing to say. Sharing many similarities with Ryan in his approach to media and journalism with respect to athletes and stories surrounding the game, JJ was the first active NBA player to start a podcast in 2016, and since has become one of the most respected and watched tv analysts. As his massive rise in sports media continues, JJ is now a part of ESPN's No. 1 crew preparing to call the NBA Finals which if he had to predict could be a Denver vs Boston series, although he's not counting out Minnesota just yet. Devale Ellis From the NFL to Acting and entertainment, the former football star shares how his Plan B fueled his Plan A, how developed a tight bond with Tyler Perry that helped lead him, talks his marriage and strength in being a father to boys. ,
Growing up in Brooklyn in the 80s and 90s, kids did not have many role models in the media industry to admire, so sports became the main outlet and focus for Devale Ellis, who followed this path with football always being his plan B while acting and entertaining were his real dreams, Devale used the game of football to teach him about being a better man, better teammate and better person because The football player turned actor and Internet personality, joined Ryan, Channing and Fred to share an inside look into his journey through the ups and downs, beating underdog odds and eventually landing him on the big screen while amassing a large social media fanbase. Walking on to Division I football, making the team, being undrafted and making a NFL roster are rare instances but for Devale, it's just about outworking the next person and being the 1% of the 1% which is why becoming a star actor and YouTube phenom was never out of a reach with dedication and effort. Before making it to the NFL playing with the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns, Ellis was a wideout alongside Marques Colston at Hofstra University. Having played basketball most of his life, Devale relied on his athleticism to perform at the college level, but he tells the guys about how his dream for a scholarship led to him wanting real money at the professional level.Starting his NFL career in Detroit, Devale's motivation to outwork people landed him a roster spot but as he peels back the layers of his experience, revealing his struggles mentally and emotionally, he opens up to the guys on how his addiction to painkillers began, turning to pills to try and mask his insecurities and frustrations with football. With his passion fading for the game, his Plan B quickly became his Plan A as he transitioned from the NFL to Hollywood, becoming an actor and entertainer. Today, Devale s best known as a family man who's a star on Tyler Perry’s Sistas show amongst other projects while creating a platform with his wife Khadeen that has become a hit. His social media framework is filled with a lot of positive messages while sharing daily experiences to allow people a peek into his life and the lessons along the way. Sharing with the guys how instrumental Tyler Perry has been in his career and as a mentor in life trying to navigate each day. Perry has helped him continue to grow with opportunity and fame, but Devale explains the importance of always supporting his people while taking the characters he plays on tv to set an example that there is always hope for a different outcome. While Devale posts lots of moments with his family online, he says the 1 min he shares out of the 1,440 minutes in a day is such a small representation of his life and who he is which is important to him to keep some aspects close to his heart. He stresses the importance of open communication between him and his wife as well as with their sons, allowing them to experience life as it happens and tackle tough topics straight on whether it be racism, bullying, work ethic or debunking false perceptions of black culture, Devale prides himself in setting an example by sharing life experiences and showing the world, even people who hit obstacles have a way of achieving their dreams. Life never works out quite as we planned or imagined, but sometimes it can work out even better and Devale has embraced the better and all the growth that has come with each success and even the failed opportunities too. As a father to young boys, Devale emphasizes how everything is centered around emotional maturity, having a strong family and the means to get by each day. Devale is honest about the paths he's walked, mistakes he's made and how each part of his journey has shaped him into the man, husband and father he is today. Caleb Williams The NFL's No. 1 Overall Projected Draft Pick talks his football mindset, winning Championships, dealing with critics, hating disrespect, what he looks forward to in Chicago & being a leader for the Bears
This year’s 2024 NFL draft class has received more noise than recent years’ pools of players, and it has mainly stemmed from one position- quarterback. Many teams are hoping to change the trajectory of their franchise in the first round, and the Chicago Bears are sitting in that top spot with one player a phone call away.  Ryan, Channing and Fred sat down with the NFL’s projected No. 1 overall pick, Caleb Williams to find out what it will be like for him to hear his name called first at next week’s Draft in Detroit. The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner talks to The Pivot a few days before the life changing night, about what it will take for him to lead a team and how he has proven what it takes to win Lombardi Trophies.  A knock many people had against Caleb was that he lacked adversity growing up. Caleb shuts down these assumptions and explains how each of his biggest pivots came from losses and failures. Whether it was falling short in crucial games growing up or starting on the bench at Oklahoma, Caleb has dedicated his life to never accepting losses again.  Williams is built for the future of the game, and as Channing says he’s “built in a lab,” Caleb has approached football from a business mindset as well. His parents taught Caleb to sit back and watch then learn and adapt, and on and off the football field Williams has found ways to only get better.  The Bears trading away Justin Fields showed Caleb everything he needed to see, and the same way he changed the culture at Gonzaga High School and at USC he is hoping to revive Chicago football. He discusses with the guys how much he dreams of championships and the journey he’s taken to making that a reality.  Playing alongside Olu Fashanu in high school and against Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix in college has exposed Caleb to some of this year’s best talent. Yet he explains to Ryan how his leadership and focus is seemingly unmatched amongst the other players.  Before games Caleb tells himself he’s already won, and he is already picturing his name being called out on April 25th. Caleb hopes to cultivate a new culture in Chicago, and he has the confidence to make it happen.  New episodes drop on Tuesdays at 12 p.m. ET and Fridays at 3:30 p.m ET on YouTube, with audio available on all streaming platforms Learn more about your ad choices. Jamal Crawford on his basketball journey, becoming the NBA’s legendary 6th Man, shares untold Michael Jordan stories, debunks falsehoods off the court, talks fatherhood, coaching and importance of legacy and cultural impact

Jamal Crawford on his basketball journey, becoming the NBA’s legendary 6th Man, shares untold Michael Jordan stories, debunks falsehoods off the court, talks fatherhood, coaching and importance of legacy and cultural impact
In one of our favorite conversations on The Pivot, Ryan, Channing and Fred talk with NBA legend Jamal Crawford on everything from his basketball journey to Michael Jordan bond to fatherhood to life after the game and importance of legacy. Whether it is starting roles or years of advice, he’s given back a lot to the game he loves, and on this episode we get a rare glimpse of how one person can have so much love and gratitude for a sport. When people bring up the greatest ball handlers basketball has ever seen, there is a shortlist of guys who make that group, with most of the players being shorter point guards who have made a living off of facilitating NBA games and dominating other small defenders. At 6’5”, Jamal cemented himself as one of the best isolation players from the shooting guard position and adapted a “whatever it takes” mentality to win which led to Jamal being named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year three times and the 2018 NBA Teammate of the Year which meant the most to him because it was always about who he is over what he is that matters. As a young man growing up in LA and Seattle, Jamal shares how a random but timely interaction with Paul Pierce pushed him to be in school and approach his grades with as much love and detail as he did basketball, and once he started, the opportunities started flowing.  His natural ball handling skills and unique approach to the sport paved a path not many can walk professional sports, but Jamal did it was class and respect, being clear that playing basketball was never about changing his circumstances, rather it was always about his pure love for the sport and the magic feeling that took over his body every time he touched a ball.  It was after getting drafted where Jamal’s ability and basketball career truly took off and how meeting one man, forever changed his life. Sharing never-told-before stories to The Pivot, Jamal opens up how Michael Jordan took him under his wing and explains how their close knit bond on and off the court was formed. MJ deemed Jamal his go-to partner in summer ball and the duo never lost while attracting stars and celebs to their pick up games. By developing this life-long bond with the GOAT, Jamal understands how that bond changed his life on every level by just knowing he had the “Greatest Ever” in his corner, helped his career skyrocket and he even shares some off-the-court stories between the two from gambling to parties to hard lessons. After listening to Jamal talk his basketball journey, how he approached the game, his love for the sport and ability to easily talk any aspect and break down players and plays, Ryan called him a “Basketball Nerd”, a compliment to how much he truly loves the game.  Before closing out the conversation, Jamal talks fatherhood, what it’s like coaching his son and the lessons learned through this experience. The current on-air analyst gives his take on the current NBA playoff picture, his comparison of Kyrie and Jokic and how Wembley is the emerging face of the game for years to come. Crawford has always been an analyzer, hyper-aware of all that is going on around him, and his breakdown of any situation proves just that. He may not have an All-Star appearance to his name, but he tells the guys that’s part of his story of what he gave back to a game that gave him so much.
