In today's episode, we sit down with New Britain Mayor, Erin Stewart, to discuss one of the Root Center's latest ventures, our FIRST ever residential treatment facility. This new facility will replace our former clinic on Whiting Street, which was where we were located prior to opening our newly remolded clinic in January of 2022, which is now on East Main Street. This clinic will be state-of-the-art, and provide 16 gender inclusive beds for those in need of more intensive treatment. We are fortunate to work closely with New Britain Mayor, Erin Stewart, who shares a passion for helping those who are struggling with mental health and/or addiction. In today's episode, we sit down with Middletown Mayor, Ben Florsheim, to discuss the Root Center's latest venture, a new treatment facility, and the FIRST ever to offer methadone, in Middlesex County. Middlesex County is currently the only county in Connecticut to not offer methadone as a treatment option for those struggling with opioid use disorder. However, it was also the country that saw the largest increase in overdose deaths from 2019-2020. After years of persistence, hard work, and the help of the Mayor, we finally broke ground on this new clinic in March, and the center is now set to open in 2024. In today's episode, we sit down with latest addition to our Board of Directors. Patricia Rehman, known affectionately as Pat, is an exciting addition who comes to use with a wealth of experience and knowledge. Pat is a registered nurse by trade, and has a long history in the world of behavioral health. She was the former Commissioner of the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) from 2009-2015. Following that, she became the Senior Vice President of Hartford Healthcare (HHC) and President of the Behavioral Health Network (BHN), from 2015-2021 when she retired. Just last year, she was also a panelist at our Community Forum on Safe Consumption Sites, and has long been an advocate for the work that we do at the Root Center. We know she will be an invaluable asset to our Board, and we are thrilled that she is joining us! In today's episode, we sit down with Ben Matcalf, our Chief Operating Officer, to discuss a new initiative at the Root Center for Advanced Recovery, Roots At-Home. The Roots at Home Program (RAHP) will be based out of our Middletown Center and serve clients in the Middlesex Community.  The RAHP team will serve clients who have significant barriers to receiving treatment at a clinic (i.e., transportation, childcare, ability to pay, etc.).  The RAHP team will meet with clients in their homes and/or in the community to provide “wrap” around services such as: counseling, connections to services, and other recovery treatment and supports at no cost to them.This program is entirely funded by the Root Center’s endowment dedicated to giving back to communities.  We hope that with self-funding this program, we can start to collect data and work with the State of CT to provide more funding and possibly even insurance reimbursement for these types of addiction and recovery support programs.This is an exciting new venture, learn more in this podcast!Be sure to follow us on social media to get notified when we have new releases, also, feel free to send us a message with a topic or question that you would like to have discussed.
