In July 2019, there was fear amongst residents in Metchosin, British Columbia when it was announced that 2 men had escaped William Head Institution, a minimum security facility located on the southernmost tip of Vancouver Island. Donna Jean Awcock was 17 years old when she went out babysitting at a nearby apartment complex in October 1983. Donna loved kids and babysitting so this was normal for her, but when she failed to return home the next day her family reported her missing.  Her body was found badly beaten, and her killer has never been caught.
