Episode 6 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla discusses the events after marriage of Emperor Shantanu and Satyavatee. The couple was blessed with two sons – Chitraangad and Vichitrveery. Shantanu died when the younger son was still a small kid. Chitraangad became king. He was extremely arrogant. One day he was challenged by a gandharv named Chitraangad. The two fought for a long time and King Chitraangad was killed. Even though Vichitrveery was a kid, he was crowned as king with Bheeshm looking after the royal duties. In due course, Vichitrveery grew and reached marriageable age. There were no marriage proposals coming for him. King of Kaashi had held a swayamvar for his three daughters. Bheeshm went to Kaashi and kidnapped the three girls challenging all present kings for a fight. The kings attacked Bheeshm, but were no match for him. Just when Bheeshm was leaving with the three girls, he was challenged by King Shaalv. Episode 5 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla discusses the developments that enabled old Emperor Shantanu to get married to young beautiful Satyavatee. Shantanu was around seventy years old when he saw young and beautiful Satyavatee. Shantanu fell for her and approached her father to ask for her in marriage. Her father, Nishaadraaj, demanded a promise that Satyavatee’s son would become the king after Shantanu. This was a difficult promise for Shantanu since it involved robbing Gangaputr of his legitimate right. Shantanu became sad and dejected due to his unfulfilled desire to marry Satyavatee. The story starts in heaven with King Mahabhish looking at the body of Devee Ganga. King Mahabhish is cursed to go to earth. He decides to take birth as son of King Prateep. Eight vasus are expelled from heaven. They request Ganga to bear them as her sons. She agrees to kill first seven of her sons as soon as they are born. She tells the vasus that the eighth son will live. In due course, Ganga marries King Shantanu, son of King Prateep. She throws her first seven sons into water. Episode 2 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the series of events leading to the birth of Dwaipayan Krishn who was later called as Ved Vyas. There was a king named Uparichar son of Paurav who was king of Chedidesh. King Uparichar was blessed by Devraaj Indr. Girikaa was the daughter of a mountain named Kolaahal and a river named Shuktimatee. Uparichar had married Girikaa and wanted to mate with her. However, by a strange turn of events the king’s semen fell in Yamuna River where it was ingested by a fish. In due course, the fish was caught by fishermen. On cutting the fish, two children (a boy and a girl) were found. The girl had a strong smell of fish. The king handed over the girl to Daashraaj, the king of fishermen. The girl was named Matsyagandha, but was later called Satyavatee. She was a beautiful girl and used to row a boat. Once a rishi named Parashar sat in her boat. The mating of Rishi Parashar with Satyavatee led to a child being born immediately after the intercourse. The kid was dark skinned and hence was called Krishn. He was left on an island in Yamuna and was hence called Dwaipayan. The kid was born with extraordinary abilities. He knew the Vedas at the time of birth and wanted to do tapasya immediately after birth. After deciding to spend the night at Muni Bhardwaj, Ram asked Hanuman to visit Ayodhya and inform Bhart about Ram’s victory and planned return to Ayodhya. Ram instructed Hanuman to carefully observe Bhart and try to guess Bhart’s thoughts. Ram was not sure if Bhart would like to welcome him. Ram confided to Hanuman that power over such a rich kingdom can make anyone clip. Ram told Hanuman that if Bhart was not interested in handing over the reign to Ram, he would not go to Ayodhya and would instead go elsewhere. Hanuman rushed to Ayodhya. He informed Bhart about Ram’s victory over Raavan and imminent return. Bhart was jubilant. Bhart embraced Hanuman and showered him with gifts. Next day, Ram returned to Ayodhya and was welcomed with enthusiasm and festivities by Bhart and everyone at Ayodhya. Soon after his return, Ram was crowned as the king of Ayodhya. (Ref. Everyone had a good night’s sleep. When Ram woke up, he saw Vibheeshan standing with folded hands pointing to the arrangements that had been made including water for bathing, sandalwood, clothes, ornaments, make-up etc. Ram said that he was missing his brother Bharat and requested Vibheeshan to concentrate on the journey to Ayodhya which was a long one. Vibheeshan asked Ram to not worry about the journey since his brother Kuber’s vimaan (aircraft) was available. The vimaan would take them to Ayodhya in just one day. When the vimaan arrived, Vibheeshan asked Ram if there was anything else that he could do. Ram advised Vibheeshan to give money to all the soldiers who had fought so valiantly. Vibheeshan accepted the advice. Just as Ram was getting ready to board the vimaan, Sugreev, Vibheeshan and all chiefs of Vaanar Sena expressed their desire to accompany Ram to Ayodhya. Ram happily welcomed them to accompany him to Ayodhya. On the way, when the vimaan was approaching Kishkindha, Seeta told Ram that she would like the wives of all vaanar warriors to also join them. Ram asked for the vimaan to halt at Kishkindha. The vaanar ladies joined the group. Just as they were nearing Ayodhya, they stopped at the ashram of Muni Bhardwaj. Muni was glad to welcome Ram. Muni told Ram that he wanted to grant Ram a boon. Ram asked that all trees in the ashram and on the way to Ayodhya should start bearing nice juicy fruits. (Ref. There was commotion all around on seeing Seeta enter the flames. All devtas, Brahma (the Creator), Mahadev (Shiv), Yamraaj, and Varun along with all ancestors came there and pleaded with folded hands to Ram to not remove his heart from Seeta. Brahma told Ram that he was Vishnu incarnate and Seeta was Laxmi incarnate. Agni devta came out of fire with Seeta in his lap holding her like a father carries his daughter. Agni dev asked Ram to accept Seeta. Ram consented. Mahadev (Shiv) praised Ram and asked him to meet Maharaj Dashrath, his father. Maharaj Dashrath was extremely pleased to meet his illustrious victorious son. Ram decided to use the happy mood of his father to ask him to remove the curse on Kaikeyee and Bharat. Maharaj Dashrath was too happy to refuse. Devraj Indr told Ram to ask for whatever he wishes. Ram asked that all dead soldiers of Vaanar Sena should become alive again; they as well as all wounded soldiers of the Sena should become healthy, disease-free and full of strength and vitality. Further, fruits and flowers should be in abundance all through the year; and rivers should flow well wherever these soldiers live. Indr granted the boons.   (Ref. Hanuman went to meet Seeta and convey the news about Raavan’s defeat and Ram’s victory. Seeta was elated to hear the news and wanted to see Ram. On hearing that Seeta wanted to see him, Ram instructed Vibheeshan to arrange for Seeta’s coming there after Seeta has a bath, gets good clothes and jewellery. All this time, Ram is immersed in deep thought and is crying continuously with tears rolling down his cheeks. He cannot face the dead bodies of Vaanar Sena and also the wounded and maimed soldiers who had fought for him. He dreads the day when he has to face the mothers, sisters and wives of killed and maimed soldiers. He cannot bear it that the world would say that he made thousands of women widows or childless just to get back his wife. When Seeta comes to Ram, he clarifies to her that he fought the war for dharm and not for the personal agenda of getting her back. He tells her that he is no longer interested in her and she is free to go with any other man whom she chooses. Seeta is heartbroken and decides to enter fire instead of living without Ram.  (Ref. वैर रहयो तब तक, जब तक तन में जान।मरन बाद रावण भयो, राम भाई समान। Episode 105 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the events that happened immediately after the death of Raavan. Vibheeshan, who had played an active role in the war, suddenly started crying after seeing his brother Raavan’s dead body. Ram consoled him and asked him to apply his mind to the future course of action. Vibheeshan sought Ram’s permission to carry out the last rites of Raavan. Ram told Vibheeshan that his animosity towards Raavan was only till Raavan was alive and Vibheeshan should carry out cremation and last rites of Raavan. All the wives including Mandodree reached the place where Raavan’s dead body was lying. The women started wailing and crying. Each of them was remembering Raavan in her own way and was shedding tears. Ram asked Vibheeshan to console them. After consoling the women, Vibheeshan turned to Ram and said that considering the crooked man Raavan was, he did not want to carry out the last rites of Raavan. Ram convinced Vibheeshan that Vibheeshan should carry out the last rites for Raavan. Vibheeshan took the help of his maternal grandfather Maalywaan and carried out the creamation and other last rites. Ram asked Sugreev and other warriors of Vaanar Sena to go with Vibheeshan and carry out Vibheeshan’s coronation as king of Lanka. After the coronation, Ram asked Hanuman to enter Lanka with the permission of Vibheeshan and meet Seeta. Ram asked Hanuman to convey to Seeta the news of Ram’s victory over Raavan and come back with any message that Seeta may have for Ram. (Ref. Raavan had run away to safety after his chariot had been destroyed. When Raavan returned with a new chariot, he started raining arrows on Ram using advantage of height. Devatas who were seeing the war, felt that this was an unequal war since Raavan was on a chariot and Ram was standing on the ground. King of devatas, Indr, ordered his charioteer, Matali, to take his divine chariot to Ram. Rushi Agastya also visited Ram and blessed him. A fierce battle started between Ram and Raavan. Soon both the warriors were bleeding and injured. A point came when Raavan was badly hurt and was unable to fight. Raavan’s charioteer took Raavan away from the battlefield. However, as Raavan gained back his strength Raavan ordered his charioteer to return to the battle field. The fighting started again and continued through the night. Ram hurt Raavan again and again but was unable to kill him. Matali advised him to use the weapon that was given to him by Rushi Agastya. Ram accepted the advice, used the weapon about which he had forgotten. The weapon penetrated and burst Raavan’s heart killing him instantly.    (Ref. After the death of last three generals of Raavan’s army, Raavan decided to fight the war himself and moved forward. Laxman tried to challenge Raavan with his arrows but Raavan easily countered Lakshman and moved towards Ram. A fierce battle started. Both, Ram and Raavan were hurt and were bleeding. Lakshman attacked Raavan’s chariot and destroyed the flag on the chariot. Lakshman also killed the charioteer. Vibheeshan joined Lakshman and killed the horses of Raavan’s chariot. Raavan was furious on Vibheeshan. Raavan took up a shakti and shot towards Vibheeshan. Lakshman destroyed the shakti with his arrows. Raavan took up another shakti more powerful than the first and said to be deadly. Before Raavan could aim it on Vibheeshan, Lakshman pushed Vibheeshan aside and jumped in front. The shakti hit Lakshman’s chest and passed through his back. Lakshman fell down, bleeding profusely and in extreme pain. Ram pulled out the shakti from Lakshman’s chest. Ram was extremely sad at seeing his brother in pain and near death. But Ram controlled his tears and channelled his emotions into anger towards Raavan. Ram vowed to kill Raavan and started shooting arrows at Raavan. The intensity with which Ram was fighting scared Raavan and he ran away. After Raavan had gone away, Ram was in tears for Lakshman and started pouring his heart out. Ram called Sushen to cure Lakshman. Sushen asked Hanuman to go to Himalayas and get the special medicine for Lakshman. Hanuman went to Himalayas and carried back a large mountain top with the medicinal plants. Lakshman was saved and cured. After getting back, Lakshman requested Ram to continue the war and kill Raavan without any delay.  (Ref. Raavan was furious and was also disturbed by the wailing sounds coming from every house of Lanka. Raavan ordered that the three remaining warriors - Mahodar, Mahaapaarshw and Virupaksh – proceed with army to the battlefield. Reserve soldiers and the still-surviving soldiers were collected in a house-to-house mobilization drive. Raavan along with the three warriors and large army proceeded to challenge and defeat the Vaanar Army. In the fierce battle that took place, Virupaaksh and Mahodar were killed by Sugreev. Prince Angad killed Mahaapaarshw. With the killing of the three warriors, there was no one left in Raavan’s army to lead and challenge the Vaanar Sena. Now Raavan was left almost alone. (Ref. Lakshman was injured badly. After returning to the camp, Lakshman was cured by Sushen, father-in-law of Sugreev. Raavan was struck by sorrow and anger after learning that his most capable son had been killed. In a fit of anger, he decided to kill Seeta. With a shining sword in his hand, Raavan moved to the place where Seeta was sitting. Raavan’s ministers were accompanying him and were shouting slogans to boost up Raavan. Just as Raavan was going to kill Seeta, he was as advised by his minister Supaarshw to preserve his anger for Ram and kill Ram in battle instead of killing woman. Raavan accepted the advice and returned. After returning, Raavan ordered his generals to proceed for war and kill Ram by surrounding Ram. At the battlefield, the Vaanar Sena fought the Raakashs army but found itself outnumbered. Ram ordered the Vaanar Sena and all warriors to withdraw. Ram took up the fight and singlehandedly destroyed ten thousand chariots, killed eighteen thousand powerful elephants, fourteen thousand horse-riders and two lakh soldiers. The whole battle field was filled with corpses in only about one and a half hours. There was not a single house in Lanka that was no affected by the grand slaughter. (Ref. Vibheeshan took Lakshman, Hanuman, Jambwaan and others of Vaanar Sena to the temple of Nikumbhila Devi where Indrajit was doing a ceremony with his army standing in guard. Ferocious fighting started between the two armies with Hanuman leading the charge from Vaanar Sena. When Indrajit learnt that his side was under pressure, he quit the ceremony and came in a chariot to the scene of the battle. On reaching the battle field, he saw his uncle Vibheeshan. Indrajit immediately knew that Lakshman and the accompanying army had been brought to that secluded unknown place by Vibheeshan. This infuriated Indrajit who abused his uncle and condemned the merciless attempt of Vibheeshan to try to get his own son (nephew is considered as a son) killed. Vibheeshan answered Indrajit’s accusations taking recourse to the principles of dharm. The fighting that followed saw both Lakshman and Indrajit wounded and covered in blood. Finally, Lakshman was able to use the special weapon from Indr (the king of devatas) to chop off Indrajit’s head and kill him.  (Ref. कुटिल निशाचर छिप कर लड़ता। क्योंकि था वो राम से डरता।।झूठी सीता काट दिखाई। चाल यह उसकी चल न पाई।।Episode 99 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the strange turn of events that took place after Indrajit, son of Raavan, returned to the battlefield. Indrajit used the technique of illusion to create a woman who looked exactly like Seeta. This illusory Seeta was sitting on his chariot. Indrajit came out from Lanka using a gate that was far away from the place where Ram and Lakshman were standing. Indrajit faced Hanuman and his army of brave soldiers. Hanuman was shocked to see Seeta in that situation. Indrajit started beating the illusory Seeta mercilessly in front of all the Vaanar Sena warriors. The illusory Seeta was continuously crying and calling out Ram. Indrajit then took his sword and cut the illusory Seeta into two parts cutting diagonally across her body. Hanuman stopped the onslaught of Indrajit and the army accompanying him. After inflicting much damage on the Raakshas army, Hanuman rushed to Ram to inform about the killing of Seeta by Indrajit who, after the killing, had gone to the temple of Nikumbhila Devi. Ram was shocked to hear the sad news and fell unconscious. Lakshman tried his best to console Ram. Vibheeshan came there and learnt of the news about killing of Seeta. Vibheeshan told Ram that this was absolutely unbelievable. Vibheeshan told Ram that Indrajit had just played a trick using illusion. Vibheeshan convinced Ram to give up sorrow and order Lakshman to go with him to kill Indrajit.  (Ref. सुग्रीव के हाथों कुम्भ मरो। पवनपुत्र निकुम्भ को मारो।।खर का पूत भी मारो गयो। मेघनाद डर के भाग गयो।। Episode 98 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the battles after killing of Kumbh, son of Kumbhkarn. Nikumbh, Kumbh’s brother was infuriated seeing his brother being killed. Nikumbh moved forward with a deadly parigh. However, Nikumbh was no match for Veer Hanuman’s strength. Hanuman used his hands to pull Nikumbh’s head away from the body. After hearing of the death of both the sons of Kumbhkarn, Raavan was infuriated and worried. Raavan ordered Khar’s son Makaraksh to go to the battlefield and kill Ram and Lakshman. The young man was very happy and enthusiastic. But his enthusiasm and confidence were no match for Ram’s arrows. Makaraksh was killed by Ram after a brief battle. When Raavan heard that Makaraksh was killed and his army routed, he called on his son Meghnaad (also called Indrajit) to go to the battlefield and kill Ram and Lakshman by all means available. Indrajit came to fight in his well-decorated chariot. He used the technique of becoming invisible. Indrajit lifted himself up in the sky over the Vaanar Sena and started showering arrows first on Vaanar Sena and then on Ram and Lakshman. The two brothers could not see Indrajit and were hence at a great disadvantage. After shedding much blood, Lakshman was infuriated and wanted to use Brahmaastr to finish the whole Raakshs race. Ram stopped Lakshman and said that he would now use his special weapons to kill Indrajit. Hearing this, Indrajit ran away from the battlefield to the safety of Lanka city. (Ref.
