धू धू निशाचर नगरी जली। आग चमकी उस रात काली।।भाग उठे राक्षस नर नारी। हुआ संहार उन का भारी।।Episode 97 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the events that happened after Vaanar Sena as well as Ram and Lakshman became healthy with the help of medicines brought by Hanuman. Vaanar Sena warriors including King Sugreev were angry. Sugreev ordered his warriors to enter Lanka and burn down all that they could. At night, Vaanar warriors took burning torches with them and set to fire houses, buildings, palaces, animal yards etc. Fire spread quickly causing widespread devastation with loss of life and property. Anyone trying to escape the burning city was killed by Vaanar Sena which had surrounded the city. Ram and Lakshman added to the horror of the night by shooting arrows. They demolished the main entry gate of the city. Raavan was infuriated. He ordered Kumbh and Nikumbh, sons of Kumbhkarn to go and fight. Kumbh and Nikumbh were accompanied by Yupaaksh, Shonitaaksh, Prajangh and Kampan. In the fighting that followed, Kampan and Prajangh were the first to be killed by Prince Angad. The brothers Yupaaksh and Shonitaaksh were killed by two brothers, Maind and Dwivid, from Vaanar Sena. Kumbh fought valiantly and hurt many Vaanar Sena warriors including Prince Angad. Sugreev rushed to the spot and after a short battle killed Kumbh. (Ref. After the loss of four sons and two step-brothers, Raavan was sad, depressed and full of self-doubt. Raavan’s son, Meghnaad, also called Indrajit, consoled Raavan saying that as long as Indrajit was alive there was no reason for Raavan to worry. Indrajit went to the battlefield with the intention of killing Ram and Lakshman. After reaching the field, he empowered all his weapons, bows, chariot, spears, arrows, horses etc. with the power of Brahmaastr. No one could withstand the power of Brahmaastr. As Indrajit and his army began the attack, the Vaanar Sena found that it had no defences against the attack. Ram and his brother Lakshman also decided to just stand and bear the powerful arrows instead of fighting back. Soon the whole army including the Ram, Lakshman, Sugreev, Angad and other warriors were fallen on the ground. Vibheeshan was not hurt. Hanuman was the first to recover. The two searched for Jaambwaan, the oldest, most experienced and wise person in the Vaanar Sena. Jaambwaan asked Hanuman to go to Himalayas and get some herbs. Hanuman went to the Himalayas and carried back the entire mountain which had the lifesaving herbs. Ram, Lakshman and entire army recovered fully and became healthy after smelling the herbs. Hanuman then carried the mountain back to Himalayas. (Ref. Three sons and one step-brother had already been killed by the great warriors of Vaanar army. Raavan’s step-brother Mahaapaarshv stepped forward to avenge the killing of his brother and his nephews. He was faced by Ryshabh. The first blow was delivered by Mahaapaarshv. However, Ryshabh soon picked up Mahaapaarshv’s gada and killed the raakshas. Now only Atikaay was left of the six warriors who had been sent by Raavan. Atikaay was a giant as large as his deceased uncle Kumbhkarn. Atikaay was blessed by Brahmaa jee with special weapons, shield and chariot. Atikaay was also a learned and wise person. Atikaay was challenged by some warriors of Vaanar army. Atikaay put all of them down with hardly any effort. Atikaay was challenged by Lakshman, Ram’s brother. The battle between the two was fierce. Lakshman was unable to pierce Atikaay’s shield even though he was using some of his best weapons. At this time, vaayu devta whispered in his ear and advised him to use Brahmaastr. Lakshman accepted the advice and killed Atikaay. (Ref. Raavan was completely devastated. He fell on the ground and started crying. He said that he had all interest in the kingdom and even Seeta. He did not want to live without his brother Kumbhkarn. Trishira, his son, consoled him. Trishira told Raavan about Raavan’s strengths and ability to destroy any enemy. Trishira offered to go and fight. Along with Trishira, other sons of Raavan – Devaantak, Naraantak and Atikaay – expressed enthusiasm to go to war. Raavan was extremely pleased. He blessed them and sent them to war along with two of his step-brothers – Mahaapaarshv and Mahodar. In the fierce battle that followed, Naraantak was killed by Prince Angad. Devaantak was killed by brave Hanuman. Mahodar was killed by Neel. Hanuman cut off Trishira’s three headswith Trishira’s sword. (Ref. यम इन्द्र पर था भारी, कभी न देखी मात।अंग भंग ताको करो, राम जब कियो अंत।।Episode 93 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the fierce battle that took place between Kumbhkarn and Vaanar warriors before Ram killed Kumbhkarn. Giant size of Kumbhkarn had scared the Vaanar army. It took some effort on the part of Prince Angad to get the army on its feet and face Kumbhkarn who was like a huge mountain. Kumbhkarn was not at all affected by stones, boulders and trees thrown at him by Vaanar sena. Rushabh, Sharabh, Maind, Dhoomr, Neel, Kumud, Sushen, Gawaksh, Rambh, Taar, Dwivid, Panas and Hanuman gathered and decided to face Kumbhkarn jointly. Dwivid attacked Kumbhkarn with a huge mountain top but the attempt failed. Hanuman threw boulders and trees on Kumbhkarn from the sky but it had no affect. Hanuman stood in front and hurt Kumbhkarn who in turn hit Hanuman with a spear. Hanuman was hurt badly. Other Vaanar warriors were also hurt badly. Prince Angad also had a fight with Kumbhkarn and fell unconscious. Sugreev faced Kumbhkarn and lost consciousness due to the impact of a huge boulder. Kumbhkarn carried Sugreev to Lanka. When Sugreev gained consciousness, he cut off the ears and nose of Kumbhkarn before escaping to Ram’s camp. Infuriated Kumbhkarn was now crazy with anger. He started eating Vaanars and even soldiers of Lanka. Kumbhkarn was stopped by Lakshman who showered him with arrows. Kumbhkarn appreciated Lakshman’s bravery and requested him to move aside so that Kumbhkarn could fight with Ram. The fight with Ram was most ferocious. Ram cut off both the arms of Kumbhkarn one by one and then cut his feet. Ram then stuffed Kumbhkarn’s mouth with arrows and then cut off his neck killing him.  (Ref. Depressed and sad after his humiliating defeat at the hands of Ram, Raavan decided to wake up his brother Kumbhkarn who had been sleeping for nine months. It was a big task to wake up Kumbhkarn involving thousands of soldiers, musical instruments and elephants. After waking up Kumbhkarn was briefed about the ongoing war and defeat of Raavan. Raavan told him about the invasion of Lanka by Vaanar Sena led by Ram. Kumbhkarn told Raavan that it was inevitable in view of his kidnapping of Sita. Raavan was not willing to correct his past mistake and argued for letting bygones be bygones. Raavan played the emotional card and pleaded for Kumbhkarn to save him. Kumbhkarn accepted Raavan’s pleadings and announced his decision to go and fight. (Ref. As Hanuman was temporarily incapacitated, Raavan decided to fight with Neel, the chief of Vaanar Sena. The techniques used by Vaanar warriors of throwing mountain tops and trees were not effective against Raavan. Every time Neel threw something, Raavan’s arrows stopped the object mid-air. Raavan started showering arrows on Neel. As a protection against the arrows, Neel reduced his size and became very small. Neel climbed on the top of Raavan’s chariot and started mocking him. Neel’s antics infuriated Raavan who decided to use an arrow containing fire on him. Neel fell to the ground but did not die since, as son of fire, he was protected from fire. After the fall of Neel, Raavan turned to Lakshman who was surely a strong opponent for him. Lakshman gave him a good fight. Raavan used a special weapon provided to him by Brahma on Lakshman. The weapon grounded Lakshman. After Lakshman fell to the ground, Raavan tried to lift him up and carry him away. Raavan failed to do so. Ram could have killed Raavan with one more arrow but ordered him to go back and come later with a new chariot and bow. (Ref. Episode 90 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the battle that took place after Raavan decided to fight himself. Death of his army chief had shaken Raavan and he decided to go and face the enemy. When Raavan went to fight he was accompanied by all the major warriors of Lanka. After reaching the battlefield, it occurred to Raavan that as all the key warriors had accompanied him the fort had become vulnerable. Raavan ordered the warriors to go to other sides of the fort. The first fight Raavan had was with Sugreev. Soon Sugreev was down with an arrow shot by Raavan. After Sugreev fell down, six key warriors of Vaanar Sena – Gawaksh, Gavay, Sushen, Rushabh, Jyotirmukh and Nal – attacked Raavan, but all of them fell to ground hurt by sharp arrows of Raavan. As key warriors of Vaanar Sena fell, Ram decided to face Raavan. However, Lakshman stopped Ram and requested that, instead, he should be allowed to face Raavan. Ram accepted his request. Before Lakshman came to the front, Hanuman challenged Raavan. Both, Raavan and Hanuman, hit each other with slaps and fists. Both were equally powerful. A strong blow from Raavan shook Hanuman badly leaving him momentarily incapacitated. (Ref. Episode 89 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the battle that took place when Prahast, the chief of army of Raavan, was sent to fight. After three of Raavan’s most able warriors had been killed, Raavan was furious and also worried. He inspected the war front and asked Prahast to go to fight along with a big army. Prahast expressed his opinion that the war could have been avoided by returning Seeta to Ram. Nevertheless, Prahast agreed to go and sacrifice his life at the altar of war. Prahast was accompanied by four assistants – Narantak, Kumbhhanu, Mahaanaad and Samunnat. Prahast was on a huge well-decorated chariot and was accompanied by a huge army. In the fierce battle that followed Narantak was killed by Dwivid. Durmukh killed Samunnat. Jambwaan killed Mahaanaad. Kumbhhanu was killed by Taar. After his assistants were killed, Prahast was furious and started causing terrible losses to the Vaanar Sena. Prahast was stopped by Neel, the chief of Vaanar Sena. The fight between the two chiefs of armies was ferocious and bloody, but at the end Neel managed to kill Prahast.  (Ref. Episode 88 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the battles that took place after Ram and Lakshman were saved from death. Raavan was shocked to hear that Ram and Lakshman have managed to rid themselves from the deadly snakes that had encircled and incapacitated the two brothers. Raavan decided to send Dhoomraaksh along with a big army to kill Ram as well as the vaanar sena. Initially Dhoomraaksh and his army gave a difficult time to the vaanar warriors. Just as vaanars were losing ground to Dhoomraaksh, Hanuman challenged him and killed him. The next raakshas warrior sent by Raavan was Vajrdanshtr along with a well-equipped army with elephants, horses, chariots and other animals. Vajrdanshtr was killed by Prince Angad. Episode 87 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the situation at the battlefield where Ram and Lakshman were lying unconscious on the ground in dust and a bed of arrows. With great effort Ram opened his eyes and looked around. When Ram saw Lakshman lying on the ground he fell into despair. Ram’s sorrow knew no bounds. Ram instructed Sugreev to return to Kishkindha with his army. Ram announced his intention to follow his brother and go to the other world. Sugreev did not want to give up so soon. He instructed his father-in-law Sushen to take Ram and Lakshman to Kishkindha with a band of warriors. Sushen advised that two special medicines – Sanjeevkarnee and Vishalya – be brought to cure Ram and Lakshman. While this discussion was going on, Garud landed there. As soon as Garun landed all the snakes who had gripped Ram and Lakshman ran away. Garud touched the two brothers and made them completely healthy. All their wounds were cured and they had become wiser, stronger and sharper. (Ref. Episode 86 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the sad events on the night when Indrajit was attacking Ram and Lakshman with terrible and deadly arrows. The brothers had been bound by venomous snakes but the shower of arrows had not stopped. There was no space left on either Ram or Lakshman’s body which had not been hit by Indrajit’s deadly arrows. Both brothers were bleeding profusely. They no had no strength left. Ram was the first to fall to ground. As Lakshman saw Ram fall, he lost all hope and collapsed. After the brothers had fallen, the vaanar sena was down with sorrow. Vibheeshan took the initiative and asked Sugreev to do his duty of taking care of the army. They set up guard for safety of Ram and Lakshman. On the other side, Indrajit informed Raavan, his father about the death of Ram and Lakshman. Raavan was elated. He ordered for Seeta to be taken to the site so that she could herself see the dead bodies of Ram and Lakshman. Seeta is taken to the war field where she sees Ram and Lakshman lying on the ground covered with blood and dust. She starts crying. Trijata, a raakshasee, tells Seeta to stop crying because according to her Ram and Lakshman had not died. (Ref. Episode 85 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla marks the start of a most terrible and bloody war. Vaanar sena had surrounded Lanka and was breaking its walls and doors. Raavan ordered his army to step out and start killing the vaanars. Soon there was bloodshed all around. Rivers of blood were flowing with dead bodies and heads floating in the ghastly river. Four raakshas warriors (Agniketu, Rashmiketu, Suptaghn and Yagykop) surrounded Ram and attacked him. Ram killed all four of them. Lakshman killed Virupaaksh. Hanuman killed Jambumaalee. Raakshas Praghas was creating havoc in the vaanar army. So, Sugreev killed Praghas. Sugreev’s father-in-law, Sushen killed Vidyunmaalee. Nal killed Pratapn and Neel killed Nikumbh. The war did not stop even after sunset. Six raakshas warriors surrounded Ram and showered him with arrows. Ram shot six arrows hurting all six of them. They ran away and escaped being killed. The most important battle was between Prince Angad and Prince Meghnaad (Indrajit). Angad destroyed Indrjit’s chariot and killed the horses. Indrjit escaped and disappeared by becoming invisible. While remaining invisible, Indrjit attacked Ram and Lakshman with most deadly arrows which hurt the brothers enormously. Then he used a special weapon which caused the two to be bound by highly venomous snakes. (Ref. Episode 84 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla starts with the morning after Ram, Sugreev and the army had spent the night on Suvel Mountain observing Lanka. As the sun rose, they saw Raavan on a terrace duly decorated with ornaments and his crown. Seeing Raavan, Sugreev got infuriated and in a fit of anger jumped to the terrace where Raavan was. Sugreev challenged Raavan and a fierce battle started. Both, Raavan and Sugreev, were soon covered with sweat and blood. At a point, Raavan realized that he could not defeat Sugreev and he must resort to deceit to defeat the king of Vaanars. Sugreev realized that Raavan has decided to play dirty. Sugreev jumped from there and landed back near Ram. Sugreev had been victorious. But Ram was not too pleased with his brave act.  Ram ordered the Vaanar Sena to take their positions as planned. When the army was all set to begin assault, it was decided to send a final message to Raavan to either face war or surrender. Prince Angad was chosen to deliver this message. Prince Angad dutifully jumped over the walls of Lanka and reached the place where Raavan was sitting with his ministers. Angad delivered his message. Raavan was furious. He ordered for Angad to be caught and killed. But, Angad jumped away from there. Before jumping back to Vaanar Sena, Angad destroyed the roof of Raavan’s palace. (Ref. Episode 82 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes a dirty trick played by Raavan to deceive Seeta and get her to agree to be his wife. Raavan had repeatedly received information from his detectives and ministers that it was impossible to defeat Ram. With defeat staring at him, Raavan decided to play dirty. He asked Viddujjivha, an expert at deception, to create a severed head and a grand bow. Viddujjivha created the deception as ordered. Raavan went to Seeta and told her that Ram had been killed while sleeping. Raavan described in great detail the attack by his army on sleeping vaanar sena killing most of the vaanar warriors and forcing others to flee. Raavan informed Seeta that Hanuman and Sugreev had been killed, while Lakshman had chosen to flee. Raavan then ordered for the head of Ram to be brought for Seeta to be able to have a last look at her deceased husband. Seeta was down with grief after listening to this. She started crying. She requested Raavan to place her body on her husband’s body and kill her too. With the preparations for war going on in full swing, Raavan was called by his ministers for an urgent meeting. As Raavan moved away, the deception that was Ram’s head and bow also disappeared. Sarma, a raakshasee who was on duty to guard Seeta, came to Seeta and told her that Raavan was a big liar and all that he had told was a lie. Sarma assured Seeta that Ram and Lakshman were alive and that she had seen the brothers herself. This calmed Seeta. (Ref. Episode 81 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the reports that Raavan received about strengths of Ram, Lakshman, Sugreev and the accompanying vaanar sena. The first report came from Shuk, a detective whom he had sent to convey a message to Sugreev. Dissatisfied with the report of Shuk, Raavan decided to dispatch two of his ministers. When the ministers returned they were all praise for the generals and warriors of vaanar sena. This infuriated Raavan enormously. Raavan expelled the two ministers from his court. Episode 80 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the events that took place when Ram decided to appeal to the ocean to grant passage. For three days and three nights, Ram prayed to the ocean to give way. But there was no response from the ocean. Ram decided to use brute force and dry up the ocean. When Ram was about to release the most powerful Brahmastr, the ocean appeared and suggested that Ram consider building a bridge. The ocean also told him that there was a vaanar named Nal who was the son of Vishwakarma. Nal accepted that he had the expertise to build a bridge across the ocean. With the support of the army which consisted of millions of vaanars, Nal constructed the huge bridge in five days. When the bridge was completed, the army crossed over it and established a camp in Lanka. (Ref. Episode 79 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the events that took place in the camp of Vaanar Sena after Ram, Sugreev and their ministers decided to accept Vibheeshan as part of their team. Vibheeshan was given a warm welcome. Vibheeshan, on his part, declared that he had left behind Lanka and was now completely under Ram. Looking at Vibheeshan affectionately, Ram asked him about details of various key persons of Raavan’s army. Vibheeshan answered the question giving all details openly and frankly. Impressed with Vibheeshan’s openness, Ram declared that he would kill Raavan and make Vibheeshan the king of Lanka. The surprise declaration made Vibheeshan bow his head and affirm that he would use all his strengths and capabilities to enable Ram to defeat Raavan. The affirmation pleased Ram immensely. Ram embraced Vibheeshan and directed Lakshman to get water from the ocean and coronate Vibheeshan as the king of Lanka. Lakshman complied with the order and Vibheeshan was crowned. After the coronation, Sugreev and Hanuman asked Vibheeshan about the way of crossing the ocean. Vibheeshan suggested that Ram should ask for help from the ocean devta.  Shardul, a detective of Raavan, saw the camp of Vaanar army and reported to Raavan. Raavan ordered Shardul to go to Sugreev and convey a message asking Sugreev to desert Ram. Shardul flew as a parrot, reached the camp and told Sugreev as directed by Raavan. The vaanar soldiers caught Shardul, gave him a good beating and put him behind bars. Shardul cried for help to Ram pleading that he was a diplomat and hence enjoyed diplomatic immunity. Ram directed the soldiers to leave him and spare his life. Before leaving, Shardul asked Sugreev for his reply. As Sugreev was communicating his reply, Shardul was surveying the army. Prince Angad noticed it and cried that Shardul was a detective and should be arrested. On the orders of Sugreev, Shardul was caught and imprisoned. Shardul once again appealed to Ram for sparing his life. Ram heard his cries and asked the soldiers to free him. (Ref.
