Growing up my dad and I used to spend hours listening to his old records and sometimes he used to teach me how to play his old guitar.

"You see honey it’s not that hard."

"Yeah but you’re playing for me Dad."

"One day honey you are going to be a famous musician like I could never be."

"Owww, Dad."

"What's wrong?"

I had a sharp pain in my ear and dad rushed me to the doctor and after that day I lost my hearing, I could no longer hear the sound of music again. After some time, my parents made sure that I went to the best school to help me understand sign language and lip read.

"Mariah, we are so proud of you for staying strong. Not many people have your strength."

"Yes, you are one amazing girl. You inspire me."

I realized that there were a lot of people like me who also had a hearing condition and they lived normal lives too, but my sister Jasmine who was two years older than me started acting different

"Maybe I should find another home, since everything in this house is all about Mariah!"
