Boron!...actually never mind, not boron.
Ok, well…. Today’s episode is a bit unique…. The intention was to discuss the important benefits of a trace mineral called boron. It is an important mineral, make no mistake. But, as we started recording, we got bored. Turns out talking about boron is kind of boring! So, we do hit the boron highlights, but then, in typical Patti & Michael fashion, we veer off into debate and discussion. The topic became the danger of misinformation by health influencers and how to remain skeptical. What We Don't Know About Hormones - Part 3
Genova’s Endo+ Profile is the first of its kind in hormonal health, offering the unique ability to test saliva, blood, and urine simultaneously. This flexibility lets providers create tailored hormonal profiles that reveal insights and connections between sex hormones, thyroid function, adrenal health, melatonin rhythms, and estrogen metabolism. While creating this product, we spent years scouring the research for the most up-to-date clinical information. Some of what we found, or more importantly didn’t find, calls into question what gets repeated in the echo chambers of functional medicine. Today is part 3 of our series where we challenge common doctrine in hormone testing. Red Meat & Heart Disease [Rebroadcast]

Red Meat & Heart Disease [Rebroadcast]
Foods come in and out of favor all the time. Eggs are good for you… no wait, they are bad… nope, good again – let’s not even discuss butter! There are many disease correlations related to specific foods and literature continues to evolve. One such focus is on red meat and its correlation to cardiovascular disease.  But why? Is all red meat bad? Can you eat red meat and not increase heart disease risk? What about it should cause concern? Interestingly, the answer lies in the microbiome’s ability to metabolize the carnitine in red meat into a metabolite called trimethylamine (TMA). What happens from there is the key!  But be warned, there is more to TMA than red meat and carnitine. Today we discuss TMA and how it becomes a cardiovascular risk factor (TMAO). We tell you about TMA’s many sources - besides red meat - and why you should care. Today on The Lab Report: 2:10 Food controversies3:50 Break it Down: Trimethylamine (TMA) and trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO)6:40 TMAO, carnitine, and choline10:00 Wait, which foods are actually the problem?13:50 Red meat, TMAO, and cardiovascular risk18:40 Dietary microbiome changes20:05 Question of the Day: Which Genova profiles can help? What We Don't Know About Hormones
Hormones are complicated! The body makes dozens of hormones that influence each other. Fine-tuning that full hormonal symphony can lead to significant symptom improvement and well-being. Genova’s testing can help and the new Endo+ Profile is a great place to start. With this latest product upgrade, we’ve spent almost 2 years scouring the literature for the most up-to-date clinical information to help guide clinicians. However, while we were knee-deep in research and literature, we found ourselves with conflicting messaging and realized the echo chamber in personalized medicine might need to be re-examined.   In today’s episode, we begin to challenge a few concepts in hormonal testing. Sometimes it’s good to be humble, take a fresh look at dogmatic concepts, and rethink what we thought we knew.  Today on The Lab Report: 3:50 Endo+ Support Guide and literature diving6:10 Salivary hormones – Why? Endo+ : The Next Generation of Hormone Assessment
The body makes dozens of hormones that affect our health every day -sex hormones, thyroid, cortisol/stress hormones, melatonin etc. When hormones are out of balance, it can lead to symptoms like hot flashes, low libido, weight fluctuations, hair or skin changes, and many more. These symptoms can overlap since all hormones influence each other. That means, to get a full picture of hormonal health we need a broader lens. Listen in today as we discuss Genova’s Endo+ Profile – The first of its kind. Endo+ is a modular panel of testing that offers the unique ability to assess saliva, blood, and urine simultaneously. This flexibility allows providers to create their own profiles to reveal insights and connections between sex hormones, thyroid function, adrenal health, melatonin rhythms, and estrogen metabolism – and Genova synthesizes all of that information for you!  Today on The Lab Report: 2:20 Hormones are complicated and interconnected5:25 The hormone pyramid8:35 Endo+ Profile – the complete picture10:50 Break it Down - saliva, blood, urine13:20 Variables in choosing sample types18:00 Endo+ Testing options and information synthesis20:20 Anabolic/Catabolic balance21:10 Estrogen Metabolism22:15 Add-ons23:05 Endo+ puts it all together Additional Resources: Endo+ Profile Genova Connect   **PROMO CODE   TheLabReport20 for 20% off ** Subscribe, Rate, & Review The Lab Report Thanks for tuning in to this week’s episode of The Lab Report, presented by Genova Diagnostics, with your hosts Michael Chapman and Patti Devers.
