Now the earth was corrupt in God's sight, and the earth was filled with violence. (Genesis 6:11)

What does it mean to be corrupt? Literally, to be on the way to ruin. Because of sin, the entire earth had become like a banana with a greasy, black peel. No one wants that.

God promises the Flood because of this horrible corruption. God wants all people to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4), but sin cannot stand in His presence. Even now, God promises that those who persist in their sinful corruption “will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His might” (2 Thessalonians 1:9).

For Noah’s generation, it was a Flood of water that would destroy the corruption. In the final judgment, corruption will be destroyed forever in the lake of fire (Revelation 20:14). Amen.
