How To Improve Your Financial Wellness with Erin Confortini

How To Improve Your Financial Wellness with Erin Confortini
Financial wellness is the ability to meet basic needs and manage money in both the short and long term. We know money can be a stressful topic so we wanted to make this conversation approachable and relatable. We wanted to bring on a guest that lives a similar lifestyle to most of us - loves to shop, travel, buy $8 lattes, live in a cute place and hang out with friends but has also found a way to prioritize saving, investing and planning for their future. We connected with Erin via social media. She works full-time as an auditor but is also a content creator on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube where she transparently shares her weekly spending, finance tips, budgeting tips and resources with her 200k+ community. In this episode, Erin shares her story how she has been able to learn financial literacy, create a budget for herself, live within her means and contribute to her long term goals. We dive into the topics of good and bad debt, saving strategies, bank accounts, credit cards, emergency funds and ways to improve one’s financial situation. Erin says to her, “financial wellness means setting up my life so that money is no longer a stresser nor the main driver in decision making day-to-day.”SPONSORS + DISCOUNTS: This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp. Social Wellness, Belonging and Building A Social Safety Net with Dr. Chelsea Shields (Part 1)
03-02-2023
Social Wellness, Belonging and Building A Social Safety Net with Dr. Chelsea Shields (Part 1)
In continuation of our ‘8 Dimensions of Wellness Series,’ we are honored to bring on Dr. Chelsea Shields who is an award-winning anthropologist, founder of Brandthropologie, a research and strategy consulting business, and multi-time TED fellow, speaker, and speaking coach.Dr. Shields thinks about social wellness in terms of a safety net. An intricate weaving of people in our community who we depend on. As people start making more money and as technology becomes more prevalent, people start hiring out social roles that they used to have to accommodate for. It’s crucial to our well-being to foster relationships on a very real intimate level. She suggests having 5-6 close quality friends that you can lean on in times of need, as well about 15-25 close acquaintances. She explains that if you don’t have this quality safety net then events like divorce, death and bad accidents can cause more suffering than they would have otherwise. “Invest in the people that give you reciprocity.”“I think our generation is missing multigenerational relationships.”“People understand emotions before they understand logic.”“Social pain is pain. It’s the same neural pathways as physical pain.”“Routines are what keeps things the same. Rituals are what makes things different.”MENTIONS:Plant-Based McDonalds - Mr. Charlie’sA Fave LA/NYC Restaurant - The Butcher’s DaughterFunny TikToker - @TK.CaliforniaBOOK RECS:Sociobiology: The New Synthesis by E.O. Self-Care Series: The 8 Dimensions of Wellness
This is the introductory episode to a series that will cover the 8 dimensions of wellness over the next few months. The 8 dimensions (according to Dr. Peggy Swarbrick) are emotional & mental, environmental, financial, intellectual, occupational, social, physical, and spiritual. In this series, each episode will dive deep into one of the dimensions. Our goal is that by providing conversations from various friends and experts - we can all continue further on our paths of personal wellness. We think 2023 should be about listening to yourself and what works for YOU - a holistic approach to health - to discover a lifestyle that is balanced, sustainable and realistic based off your wants and needs. There can be a lot of societal pressure to get an immediate start on your goals in January but we wanted to reassure you that if you’re still in hibernation season that is absolutely okay too. Take what information resonates and leave the rest.MENTIONS:Free Online Mental Health ScreeningLoneliness Epidemic ArticleSPONSORS + DISCOUNTS: This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp. Hobbies: Why They’re Important, Our Favorite Hobbies, and Ideas to Try
In today’s day and age, it has become more and more common to spend our free time digitally: scrolling social media, binging shows on our computers, playing video games, etc. Traditional hobbies seem to be disappearing, and it seems like the art of having a hobby is becoming lost. In today’s episode, Allison and Ceara talk candidly about the importance of doing tasks and activities purely for fun. They talk about why they think hobbies are disappearing, hobbies they’ve participated in, their current hobbies, and what they hope to participate in in the coming months. Before that, they catch up on the holidays, chat about some life updates, share some stories about mice, and more. MENTIONS:Jessie Young - InstagramGIVEAWAY:If you enjoyed this episode, we would really appreciate it if you left a 5-star rating and review on Apple Podcast/Spotify. How To Reflect On Your Year
It seems like society puts a lot of emphasis and excitement on New Year’s resolutions, but we rarely talk about following up with the previous year’s accomplishments. All the conversations we’re seeing online and IRL about 2023 and making resolutions got us thinking about how important it is to reflect on your previous year before jumping in to set more goals. We talk about our reflection process which includes getting into a grateful state of mind, setting the atmosphere, creating a snapshot of your year, analyzing goals, reflecting on the eight pillars of wellness, and noting your biggest accomplishments. We share tips and ideas that might inspire you to set more aligned and well-balanced goals for 2023! Exploring A Sober Curious Lifestyle with Jordan Grainger
As we begin to reflect on 2022 and head into the new year, many of us are re-evaluating our current habits and thinking of ways to change up our routines. For some, that may start with cutting back on alcohol, such as participating in Dry January. One in seven Americans participate in Dry January, and the one-month sobriety challenge has quickly become a popular way for many of us to kick off the new year on a healthier note.Knowing that sobriety is something that more and more of us are curious about (especially this time of the year), we wanted to bring on Allison’s friend and sober curious gal, Jordan Grainger. Jordan Grainger is a podcaster and content creator who shares about her journey living a sober-curious life. She has a community of over 50,000+ followers where she talks about the science behind drinking, mental health, tips for managing drinking during holidays/social events, and more. We talk about all things drinking and sobriety, being an ex-party girl, mental health, being social while sober, and more.MENTIONS:Sober-Curious (Book) by Ruby WarringtonGIVEAWAY:If you enjoyed this episode, we would really appreciate it if you left a 5-star rating and review on Apple Podcast/Spotify. How To Embrace Hygge and Make Your Home The Ultimate Cozy Vibe

How To Embrace Hygge and Make Your Home The Ultimate Cozy Vibe
As the temperature drops and we all spend more time indoors, we thought it would be timely to do an episode about how we make our homes cozier so we are embracing the winter season, instead of wishing the cold days away. I’m sure you’ve all seen or heard of the Danish word ‘hygge’ which is all about surrounding yourself with the things that make life good, like friendship, laughter, and security, as well as more concrete things like warmth, light, seasonal food, and drinks. We both share what we’ve been up to lately and how we’re tapping into our senses to channel hygge into our lives. Think: cooking to jazz music, adding more pillows and blankets to furniture, lighting (non-toxic) candles, and elevating small nooks. MENTIONS:Allison’s Favorite Socks - Le Bon ShoppeNon-Toxic Candles - Boys Smell, Mala, Bath & Body Works Article on Toxic IngredientsWellness Airport Lounge - Treat CareFriends Who Hygge Together Spotify Playlist GIVEAWAY:If you enjoyed this episode, we would really appreciate it if you left a 5-star rating and review on Apple Podcast/Spotify. Cycle Syncing 101: Periods, Fitness, and Biohacking Your Cycle w/ Allie Rickard
In this episode, we have on fitness coach Allie Rickard to talk all things women's health. Allie is a certified instructor in several types of fitness, and has built a career around helping women look and feel their best. One way that women can feel their best is through cycle syncing, something Allie has been practicing for several years now. The term cycle syncing was first introduced by Alisa Vitti, an integrative nutritionist and women’s hormone expert, in her debut book Woman Code published in 2014. The method describes adjusting aspects of your life, such as how you eat and exercise, based on the phases of your menstrual cycle to help correct hormonal imbalances and decrease hormonal symptoms.Allie talks candidly about what she’s learned about cycle syncing, and how she uses it to optimize her mood, energy levels, workout performance, and relationships. We also talk periods, career goals, finding what movement is best for you, whether or not you should become a certified coach, and more. MENTIONS: In The Flo: Unlock Your Hormonal Advantage and Revolutionize Your LifeCycle Tracking Apps - Flo & 28 WellnessFlex Discs - Period Disc ProductAllie's Podcast, The UNFLTRD Podcast GIVEAWAY:If you enjoyed this episode, we would really appreciate it if you left a 5-star rating and review on Apple Podcast/Spotify.
