Belle is a tale as old as time... or at least as old as 1991 when Disney released Beauty and the Beast. This film is an undisputed tribute to the Disney classic even if one of us didn't realize until half-way through, and one of us thinks this version is better! Like Disney, Mamoru Hosoda places music front and center in his rendition of the story but he takes it online for a modern twist. While this is a re-imagining of the story, we still get all of the classic scenes and characters including of course Belle, a Beast, Gaston, and even AI versions of Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts and Chip, and the beloved Dog Ottoman. There's a lot to unpack in this film including child abuse and a dude who just loves canoeing but we get through it and not without a few sing-a-longs!
