We also have a chat about the impact of recent times on many businesses and the importance of supporting local business especially after lockdown and Covid. After all, we call them businesses but in reality they are just people, and losing a local business we need to remember it’s not just a business, they are real people with real losses and together we can help them.Thank you NHSIt was national NHS day yesterday, so we just want to say a big thank you to all the wonderful NHS staff that have worked so hard to help protect us all, especially in the last couple of years. It’s also International Kissing Day on Wednesday 6th July, maybe a great excuse to give your partner a big kiss, or maybe an excuse to kiss that person you always wanted to (just get permission first if your unsure). Either way, it’s a great excuse to all remind ourselves the greatest pleasure of kissing someone for just the sake of a kiss.Summer holidays are finally hereWe have a chat about the plans for the holidays, there is an article on great summer festivals you can read if you want some ideas of fantastic things to do for the adults, https://what.live/index.php/2022/06/28/the-best-of-scotlands-festivals-this-summer/You can also find events and fun quirky days to celebrate on What Offers, in the What’s On section https://www.whatoffers.co.uk/onWe also chatted about some of the many activities on in Fife during the summer holidays for kids, if you would like to see all the activities in your area, you can have a look at the Fife website, some of them are free and some you need to book and pay for. https://active.fife.scot/activities/campaigns/active-familiesThanks for watching, you can see all our podcasts at https://what.live/index.php/category/podcasts/ and you can help #SupportLocal at www.whatoffers.co.uk, don’t forget to join for free so you can see all the exclusive offers, sync with businesses and more. #WhatOffers #WhatPodcastWhat was built to help Support Local, Use Local, Buy Local, you can find everything local on What. The What Podcast S01 E11 What's it like to run a podcast!
Todays show is sponsored by…Button’s and Blethers, a local award winning arts and crafts shop who also provide classes regularly in the community to help you with your arts and crafts skills. https://whatoffers.co.uk/local/buttons-blethersWhat Wednesday WinnerCongratulations to Pepe Benzoni who entered the competition last week by giving a shout out to Balmule Valley Fishery. I hope Pepe enjoys his £50 to spend at Balmule, I’m sure he will have a great day out there, if you would like to see more about them, you can find more info on their profile on What https://whatoffers.co.uk/local/balmule-valley-fisheryMake sure you check out the Facebook page every Thursday at 12pm when the new competition for that week is announced. Make sure when you mention a business that you tag them if you can, just put the @ sign first then start typing the business name. You can then see the options to select the correct business, this way it’s easier for other people to go see that business. So what’s it like to run a podcastI have a chat with Editor Dave about podcasting in general. Maybe you would like to start your own podcast, or not sure if people will listen you. We discuss with some of these things plus the challenges in general with podcasting, it’s fun but time consuming and can be costly.Maybe you would like to be a sponsor of The What Podcast. Get a mention regularly on the show and in the posts here like Buttons and Blethers, Carlucci Restaurant and The Bottle Genies. If you want to discuss becoming a sponsor, then get in touch for a chat, don’t worry we don’t bit and it’s probably a lot more affordable than you think.Season 2 starting soon..I’m not sure how soon, but we are planning some changes. We thought about the name, the studio setup, our equipment and also the content. Who know what we will change, it’s still a thought process, but whatever we do, we aim to make the podcast bigger, better and more informational.Seasons will likely be made to suit the types of businesses and categories on our platform and hopefully we can get some guests in regularly too. It was great having Stevie Agnew in for a chat, it was a lot of fun chatting with the local legend singer/songwriter, if you missed that podcast you can see it here https://what.live/index.php/2022/07/06/the-what-podcast-season-1-special-with-stevie-agnew/Thanks for watching, you can see all our podcasts at https://what.live/index.php/category/podcasts/ . Todays show is sponsored by…Carlucci, Dunfermline’s oldest Italian Restaurant, great service and fantastic authentic Italian food on Dunfermline high street, or order through their app and get 50% off your first order. What Wednesday WinnerDon’t forget to check out our Facebook page to enter this weeks What Wednesday Winner competition, remember to enter as many local businesses as you can. Each business you tag will get you entry.I should also mention that it can be any type of local business, and it doesn’t need to be in any area, wherever you are, just mention the businesses you love that you would want to spend £50 in if you won.Losing local businesses!Today I wanted to talk about local businesses, just in Scotland I was looking at some stat on the Scottish government website as I was doing a bit of research.I got side tracked and looked deeper into the stats, it really annoys me the difficulty small business owners have running a business but the stats just annoy me even more. You would be surprised at the amount of employment local business provides in the country, so when we lose almost 20,000 local businesses in a year, which equate to, I estimate at least 30,000 jobs, then that’s an eye opener, if this was the BBC shutting done or Greggs and there were going to be 20,000 to 30,000 people out of work in the next year, I am sure there would be a public outcry.Yet big business contributes to less than half of the employment in the UK, so should we not be rallying behind out local businesses, clearly they give more back to the economy, given they don’t enjoy all the great tax breaks and local deals that big companies also enjoy. On Thursday I will follow up on this topic to chat about how you can market your local business and how What can help you. So check out our podcast on Thursday for more details. Thanks for watching, you can see all our podcasts at https://what.live/index.php/category/podcasts/ . The What Podcast S01 E15 Marketing your local business
Todays show is sponsored by…Buttons and Blethers, a local award winning business based in Elgin industrial estate, they provide lots of arts and crafts supplies and also have various regular classes to help you develop all your arts and crafts talents. What Wednesday WinnerDon’t forget to check out our Facebook page later today for the next What Wednesday Winner competition, remember to enter as many local businesses as you can, the more the better. Each business you tag will get you entry.I should also mention that it can be any type of local business, and it doesn’t need to be in any area, wherever you are, just mention the businesses you love that you would want to spend £50 in if you won.Marketing you local businessAs a follow up to Tuesdays podcast where I was discussing some stats on businesses in Scotland and the amount of local businesses we lose every year, I wanted to share a bit of info on how you can market your local business.Clearly there are some “Do’s & Don’ts” Don’t do nothing, if you don’t market at all then you will never reach more customers at all. Do market your businesses but don’t throw your money into something that you are just getting minimal dilutes results, you can spend so much money on platforms such as social media, search engines and various standalone directories, you would get more from simply burning your money, at least for some heat, not that we need that just now with these heatwaves. What you are better doing is focussing on trying to talk to the people that are interested in either your products or services, or supporting local businesses in general. Easier said than done, but here at What, we are doing that for you, we are talking to local people that are interested in supporting local businesses, that’s who our audience is currently, these people will tell others and more and more will soon catch on to what we are doing at What. This is a low cost service for you to become a What partner, we’re not going to break your bank, check out the video for more info or feel free to get in touch if you have any questions and discuss how we can help you market your local business. Thanks for watching, you can see all our podcasts at https://what.live/index.php/category/podcasts/ .
