Join host Troy Saunders as he and Kevin take a quick stroll down Kevin's musical history. Hailing from Manhattan NYC, 63rd Street and Amsterdam Ave, Kevin tells us about his growing up in this close knit neighborhood and how they banded together to help Kevin develop and expand his passion to make music.After graduating from the world famous "Performing Arts High School", Kevin decided to enter the Army. Even though he signed up to be a field radio man;  his love of music lead him to put together a band that became well known on many of the military bases in Germany; and eventually had him and his band, as a  featured performers on many military shows. Lifting him to celebrity status with special privileges. Retuning home he became immersed in NYC's vibrant music scene. Quickly forming new bands and meeting some of the best in the scene including the then behind the scenes vocalist, Luther Vandross.These connections led to him being ask to join the group Ray, Goodman and Brown. Kevin was the perfect fit for their artistry and a strong bond was forged.Having known of Kevin's work and incredible vocal abilities; Luther set eyes to woo Kevin from Ray, Goodman and Brown. Luther was revamping is stage show and thought Kevin would be the perfect fit. After a lot of back and forth; The group gave Kevin their blessing to join Luther Vandross' band. The rest is history. In this episode we talk about these wonderful times. Kevin recalls fondly how Luther took care of everyone and how no one ever had the need for anything. They were a family.Currently , Kevin is throwing his hat back in the ring with a new song "Hot Spot"  and an upcoming album. His new musical venture is a collaborative effect between him and his children, who write, sing and arrange on many of the songs. He originally was introduced to  the world as a member of the group Me 2 U. You will be totally entertained.Recording Academy Member Stix Bones graduated Purchase College, State University of New York with a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Performance.  Stix started his career touring with Rahzel The Godfather of Noise (The Roots) in the UK and France and touring the U.S. with 5 time Showtime at the Apollo winner/Author/Poet Jessica Care Moore. Shortly after Stix became music director for Lyricist Lounge (A hip hop showcase of rappers, emcees, DJs, and Graffiti artists and collaborated with legendary Hip Hop acts such as De La Soul, Talib Kweli, Q-Tip, Yasin Bey aka Mos Def, Common, and Doug E Fresh ​Stix independently released his first full-length Smooth Jazz album entitled "Groove Like This".  The album has graced the airwaves of more than 40 jazz radio stations in the US, jazz internet and satellite stations across the globe. It has charted in the top 10 on the digital jazz charts and made it to the top 20 jazz charts in France.​Stix became the drummer for internationally known group Soulfege. Lead by  Take back The Mic  founder Derrick N. Ashong. Stix has had the privilege to record two award winning albums with Soulfege and toured the U.S. The album “Afropolitan”  made It's mark on the Jazz Week World Charts. Artistically, she stands at the intersection of Anita Baker, Sade and Chaka Khan, though she also credits Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston and Stevie Wonder (among many others) for inspiring her to pursue a career as a recording artist.Upon her arrival in D.C. to pursue a degree in journalism at American University, Debórah quickly fell in lockstep with the top musicians of the local scene. Eventually, she formed a life-changing partnership with the production team Third Logic, comprised of bandmates and songwriting partners Robbie McDonald, Aaron "Funky Chuck" Evans and Kinard Cherry. This partnership yielded two studio albums: DayAfter (2003) and the critically-acclaimed follow-up Madam Palindrome (2011). Playing for eager and excited audiences, she headlined packed houses around the US and EU including: Warner Theater, 9:30 Club, Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, Blues Alley, Blue Note NYC, Cobb Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, and Jazz Café in London. In 2015, she headlined a four-week international residency for Jazz At Lincoln Center in Doha.An accomplished radio personality and voiceover artist, she hosted a weekly Sunday afternoon radio show at Sirius XM, where she worked for ten years. She recently composed and performed the theme song for a brand new podcast, The Suga, hosted by actresses Tika Sumpter and Thai Randolph. For the past decade she’s been doing radio jingle and voiceover work for Amsterdam-based PURE Jingles.In addition to her career as a performing artist, she’s a pillar of the D.C. music community, having served six terms as D.C. She found out that she loves teaching, and still teaches voice lessons as part of her musical journey.Her debut album, “Songs of Love and Freedom,” garnered her a 2019 Wammie Award for Best Soul Album.
