Community College- An Incubator To Dreams
Dr. Rick Daniels, Director of Student Life and Campus Inclusion at Oakton Community College (Des Plaines/Skokie, Illinois, USA) shared his viewpoint about equitable access to advanced education and the impact of investing in the futures of local students. A product of the community college system during his formative years, Doctor Daniels stated, “ the community college environment is an educational incubator…where individuals can come and foster their dreams.” He went on to add, “as a Pell Grant recipient myself, I am a living example of how helpful that is to pursuing an education. As higher education leaders it is incumbent on us to help find the resources for individuals to finance their education.” Rick also discussed his feelings on the changing offerings at American community colleges, and discussed certification programs to improve employment possibilities for many facing adversity. The Oakton Educational Foundation is administering a $100,000 grant from Northfield Township (Illinois) for the 2022-23 school year. Township residents are encouraged to apply for the needs- based grant funds at the Oakton Community College Foundation
