MISSING: Jennifer and Adrianna Wix (Springfield/Cross Plains, Tennessee) (Part 1)
Jennifer and Adrianna Wix were last seen on March 25, 2004, at the Benton residence, Jennifer's boyfriend's family's house, in Springfield, Tennessee. On that day, Jennifer's father, Michael Wix, spoke with Jennifer on the phone, making him the last relative to have contact with her. Joey Benton, Jennifer's boyfriend at the time, and his parents, Joe and Cindy Benton, are allegedly the last known individuals to have seen Jennifer and Adrianna.Since March 2004, there have been no confirmed sightings of Jennifer and Adrianna since they were last seen at the Benton residence. This has been a heart-wrenching journey for Jennifer's family, who have been tirelessly searching for answers. Over the years, many people have come forward with information that has led Jennifer's family to believe that foul play was involved. The behaviour of the last people to have seen Jennifer and Adrianna also raises suspicions. Casey, Jennifer's sister, has pieced together in great detail all of the relevant information surrounding her sister and niece's disappearance, a task that has taken a toll on her emotionally. There is a $25,000 reward for information in the case. Call the Robertson County Sheriff's Department at 615-384-7981 if you know anything. Also, please follow Justice for Jennifer and Adrianna Wix on Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram. There's also a GoFundMe you can donate to to help with the investigation. Finally, you can sign a petition supporting a search of the Benton property. Your support and involvement are crucial in our efforts to find Jennifer and Adrianna.---Support the show on PatreonSupport the show on Buy Me a Coffee---DISCLAIMER:The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the creator and do not necessarily reflect those of any of the guests on this show. MISSING: Katherine Berry (Muskogee, Oklahoma)

MISSING: Katherine Berry (Muskogee, Oklahoma)
This week, I have a baffling case for you. The last time Natalie saw her sister, Katherine Berry, was when she was only a few months old. When Natalie became a teenager, she was told that Katherine was missing, and her heart was shattered. Natalie has dedicated many years to searching, praying, and thinking about Katherine. In December 2022, she discovered that a missing person's report was not on file for her. Undeterred, she gathered as much basic information as possible, drove to the Muskogee police station, and filed the missing person's report for her (Case#: 2023-10570, Namus: MP103987).Pinning down the exact date and circumstances surrounding Katherine's disappearance is tricky. Natalie thinks her sister Katherine went missing sometime around February of 1987 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Katherine would have been a senior in high school and had just turned 18 years old.Natalie has spent the last year gathering more information about Katherine, sifting through rumours and facts, and speaking to whoever would speak to her. Natalie and her mother also contributed their DNA to a database to compare the DNA of unidentified remains across the country, but there has yet to be a match. If you have any information that might be helpful, contact Natalie through the "Where is Katherine Berry Facebook Page" or call the Muskogee Police Department at 918-683-8000.---Support the show on PatreonSupport the show on Buy Me a Coffee---DISCLAIMER:The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the creator and do not necessarily reflect those of any of the guests on this show. MISSING: Ian Indridson (Victoria, B.C.)
Today's show focuses on the missing person, Ian Indridson. Ian is a 56-year-old Caucasian man who is five feet, eleven inches tall and has a slim build. He has salt-and-pepper hair, short at the time of his disappearance. On January 10, 2022, Ian disappeared in the Fairfield area of Victoria. At that time, he wore a dark-coloured Eddie Bauer sweater, sweatpants and rubber boots. I worked briefly with Ian, and in our few conversations, he always struck me as kind, smart and funny. I spoke to his wife, Gloria, about his uncharacteristic disappearance. If you have any information about where Ian may be and have yet to speak with officers, please call the Victoria Police at (250) 995-7654, extension 1. Alternatively, you can report anonymously by calling Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or submitting a tip online on their website. INTERVIEW: Amanda Knox and the Ethics of True Crime
Today, I have a very special guest: Amanda Knox. For those of you who don't know Amanda, she is an exoneree, journalist, public speaker, and author of the best-selling memoir, "Waiting to Be Heard." Between 2007 and 2015, Amanda spent nearly four years in an Italian prison and eight years on trial for a murder she didn't commit. The controversy over Amanda's case made international headlines and unwillingly thrust her into the public spotlight, where she was vilified and shamed.Amanda now works to shed light on the issues of wrongful conviction, truth-seeking, and public shaming. Her essays and journalism have been published in major publications like USA Today, the L.A. Times, The Atlantic, The Independent, The Free Press, the Seattle Times, and Seattle Magazine.Amanda is also the co-host of the podcast "Labyrinths." In Labyrinths, Amanda and her co-host Christopher Robinson delve into stories of getting lost and found again through compassionate interviews, philosophical rants, and playful debate with fascinating people.I invited Amanda on my show to talk about a five-part series she did in her Labyrinths podcast, "Blood Money," which looks at the history and evolution of true crime content and the many ethical dilemmas that appear when creating and consuming true crime."Blood Money" is a must-listen for any creator or consumer of accurate crime content. I was so grateful that Amanda agreed to come on the podcast to talk about how the series came about, her struggles with her own story being exploited by content creators, and how we can all strive to be more ethical when creating and consuming accurate crime content.Enjoy my interview with Amanda!---Support the show on PatreonSupport the show on Buy Me a Coffee---DISCLAIMER:The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the creator and do not necessarily reflect those of any of the guests on this show. UNEXPLAINED: Patty Hearst and the SLA (Dr. Rachael Hanel)

UNEXPLAINED: Patty Hearst and the SLA (Dr. Rachael Hanel)
I have a very intriguing episode for you this week; I interviewed Dr. Rachael Hanel about Patty Hearst and the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA).Rachael is a former newspaper reporter and copy editor and teaches Creative Writing at Minnesota State University, Mankato. She is the author of more than 20 nonfiction books for children. Her first adult book is "We'll Be the Last Ones to Let You Down: Memoir of a Gravedigger's Daughter." She's also the author of "Not the Camilla We Knew," a book about Camilla Hall, a pastor's daughter from small-town Minnesota who eventually joined the ranks of the notorious Symbionese Liberation Army before dying in a shootout with Los Angeles Police in May 1974.The SLA, an American militant far-left organization active in California between 1973 and 1975, kidnapped Patty Hearst, the granddaughter of newspaper mogul William Randolph Hearst, from her Berkley dorm in February of 1974. A bizarre story followed, including extortion and Hearst joining the SLA as one of its members. The saga climaxes with a bank robbery gone awry.I had heard of the SLA and Patty Hearst in passing before talking to Rachael, but I had no idea just how incredible and strange this story is. Rachael was kind enough to walk me through what happened in 1974 and how much of what happened is still relevant fifty years later.---Support the show on PatreonSupport the show on Buy Me a Coffee---DISCLAIMER:The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the creator and do not necessarily reflect those of any of the guests on this show. MISSING: Dean Kelly Morrison (Merritt/Kamloops, B.C.)

MISSING: Dean Kelly Morrison (Merritt/Kamloops, B.C.)
On October 22, 2013, Dean Kelly Morrison disappeared after leaving his job as a painter at the 2600-hectare Stump Lake Ranch between Merritt and Kamloops. He is a 44-year-old father of three who had been living in a trailer on the ranch's property. Despite extensive search efforts, Morrison's disappearance remains a mystery to his family. It's alleged that on the day he was let go, he had an altercation with the ranch's foreman. It's also alleged that on the day Dean went missing, the Stump Lake Ranch foreman contacted members of Dean's family, asking them to get rid of his truck and trailer; the foreman eventually called a tow truck to have Dean's truck and trailer taken away. His sister reported him missing on October 28.Despite air and several ground searches and hiring a private investigator, no concrete evidence has been found to explain why Morrison disappeared. His sister had given him a bottle of Ativan pills to help him cope with personal stress, including his marriage breaking up, but the family does not believe that he would have willingly vanished; he told his mother before he disappeared that he would never leave his children.Dean's mother, Elizabeth, told me that when the family first reported Dean missing, both the ranch foreman and later the police informed her that Dean had committed suicide despite having no physical evidence to prove this. The case remains open. Please visit the Facebook page "Missing: Dean Kelly Morrison" for more information about Dean's case.Any information regarding Morrison's disappearance should be reported to Kamloops RCMP at 250-314-1800.---Support the show on PatreonSupport the show on Buy me a Coffee---DISCLAIMER:The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the creator and do not necessarily reflect those of any of the guests on this show. INTERVIEW: Tim Marczenko (Gone Cold)
Today, on the show, I have Canadian author Tim Marczenko. Tim has written two books, "Disembodied Voices: True Accounts of Hidden Beings" and "Gone Cold: Death and Disappearances in the Northwoods." I wanted Tim on the show to talk about his latter book, "Gone Cold," which looks at cold, missing person cases in my home province, Ontario. Tim's book is incredibly gripping and exhaustively researched. I was delighted he wanted to come on the show to discuss his book, the writing process, and some of the cases he's spent so much time researching. You can find both Tim's books on Amazon in print and audio format; you can also find Tim on Facebook and Instagram.---Support the show on PatreonSupport the show on Buy me a Coffee---DISCLAIMER:The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the creator and do not necessarily reflect those of any of the guests on this show. UNEXPLAINED: The Missing Lighthouse Keepers of Eilean Mor

UNEXPLAINED: The Missing Lighthouse Keepers of Eilean Mor
Happy New Year! I wanted to start 2024 with a mystery I have always been fascinated with. In December of 1900, in the Flannan Islands on Eilean Mor, three lighthouse keepers, James Ducat, Thomas Marshall, and Donald MacArthur, vanished in stormy weather and without a trace off the remote northwest coast of Scotland.Theories range that the men perished due to supernatural forces, inhabiting the Island since pre-Christian times. Or a conflict broke out between the men, and they murdered each other in a rage. And finally, some think they were blown over the side of a cliff in a gale or swept away by a giant wave during a storm.I was lucky enough to speak with Keith McCloskey, author of "The Lighthouse: The Mystery of the Eilean Mor Lighthouse Keepers." Keith's book is a tremendously gripping narrative rooted in his original historical research. Keith has written many books on aviation history and mysteries and another famous mystery, the Dyatlov Pass. You can check out Keith's books on his website, keithmccloskey.com. You can also find him on Facebook on his author page as Keith McCloskey. ---Support the show on PatreonSupport the show on Buy me a Coffee---DISCLAIMER:The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the creator and do not necessarily reflect those of any of the guests on this show. INTERVIEW: Laurah Norton (Lay Them to Rest)
I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of Laurah Norton's new book: "Lay Them to Rest: On the Road with the Cold Case Investigators Who Identify the Nameless." Laurah, also the host of The Fall Line and One Strange Thing Podcasts, has written a riveting book about how investigators, experts, and forensic scientists identify Jane or John Doe Cases. In her book, she focuses on one case in particular, Ina Jane Doe, whose partial remains were found in a state park in Illinois in January of 1993. The incredible part? Laurah and her team of experts managed to figure out who Ina was. Now, they are hoping to solve her murder. You can find Laura's book, Lay Them to Rest, where you get your books. I strongly recommend it to those looking for something passionately, meticulously researched, and written. Laurah has a background in creative writing and archival and primary research, which makes "Lay Them to Rest" a page-turner full of information I had never known about Doe and Cold Cases. MISSING: Natana Lynn Thomas (Alaska or B.C., 1978)
Natana (or Tana) Lynn Thomas went missing sometime in 1978, maybe in the summer, somewhere in Alaska or British Columbia. Natana and her husband, Mike Staso, who was stationed in the Army in Bremerton, Washington, went to Alaska to visit Mike's family. She told the family that on the way home to Tacoma, Washington, they would stop in B.C. and other places to do some sightseeing.Natana, who is Indigenous and part of the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska, was born on March 14, 1954. She grew up in central California and also spent time in the Bay area. She was married to a man named Mohammad Matar for a brief period before her marriage to Mike. There are not many theories on what happened to Natana and Mike, but one of the prevalent theories is that Mike may not have been super happy in his military career, and they went AWOL. There are also darker theories that they may have gone missing due to foul play.To the family's knowledge, neither person was reported missing.I interviewed Tana's cousin, Lorri, about her disappearance.---Support the show on PatreonSupport the show on Buy me a Coffee---DISCLAIMER:The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are that of the creator and do not necessarily reflect that of any of the guests on this show. MISSING: Danielle Sleeper (Magnolia, Texas)
Danielle Sleeper has been Missing from Magnolia, Texas, since March 22, 2015. She was last seen at a barbecue in a trailer she attended with her son and husband, whom she invited later into the evening. At some point, her husband wanted her to leave, but Danielle wanted to stay and stay over with their friends. An argument broke out, and Danielle acquiesced in going with her husband. She left her suburban vehicle, which she had taken separately, and got into her husband's Ford F-350 pickup truck. They left the party sometime around 1 a.m.The next day, family and friends were concerned when they hadn't heard from Danielle. She was usually incredibly responsive. When the husband returned to the trailer park, some of Danielle's friends asked him where she was. He gave an odd answer when he told them she tends to make friends and disappear.Danielle's family also became suspicious and decided to visit Danielle's house. They found the home in disarray and her husband, Austin, acting strange. Police were called, but to this day, there have been no clear answers on what happened to Danielle or where she may be. MISSING: Damien Nettles (Isle of Wight, England)

MISSING: Damien Nettles (Isle of Wight, England)
16-year-old Damien Nettles went missing on a cold, rainy night on November 2, 1996, in Cowes on the Isle of Wight, an Island just off the southern coast of England. His movements were well documented by CCTV camera footage up to midnight on November 2.That night, Damien had gone to a party with a friend. Later that evening, Damien and his friend left the party early and headed over to West Cowes, having bought some cider to drink. They wandered the streets for a few hours before parting company at around 10:30 p.m. He is last seen on High Street, in Cowes, just after midnight. There are rumours that foul play may be involved in Damien's disappearance. After a local drug dealer died in 2002, rumours that he may have been responsible started to surface. In 2011, Hampshire Police made eight arrests for conspiracy to murder, but after an extensive bail period, all suspects were released without charge. When the police made the arrests, the case was elevated to suspected murder. They searched one property. Later, they reverted it to Missing Person status. Valerie, Damien's mother, says the police have been exceedingly hard to deal with and declined to get involved or assist with any searches by the public on the family's behalf or participate in a BBC Documentary which aired in 2016.If you know anything about his disappearance, please contact Hampshire Police on 101, quoting 'Operation Ridgewood.' If you prefer to remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.Also, please check out damiennettles.uk, the website and the Facebook group "Justice for Damien Nettles." MISSING: Connie Johnson (Chicago or Boston, 1979/1980)
Today, I have a very unique episode for you. I saw a post on a cold case Facebook page that intrigued me. Angie has been searching for her mother, Connie Johnson, for decades.Angie was given up for adoption at a young age and only recently, after exhaustive genealogical research, pieced together that her mother might be missing. Angie has spent years doing ancestral research, tracking down her biological family, and piecing together information about her mother. She’s done a tremendous job on her own, and she’s managed to locate many of her family members, including her dad and brother, but has yet to find out what happened to her mother.Little is known about Connie Johnson’s disappearance. She likely went missing from Chicago or Boston sometime in 1979 or 1980. I will post a photo below, one of the last known photos of Connie , where she is with a man. Some think he may have had something to do with her disappearance.Angie is looking for help with her tenacious search. She understands it’s unlikely her mother is still alive, but she really wants to know what happened to her. If you’re an amateur sleuth and possess some advanced genealogical research skills, reach out to Angie or me – I’ve linked her Facebook profile, with her permission: https://www.facebook.com/AngieM.Schmitz1 Here’s my interview with Angie.---Support the show on PatreonSupport the show on Buy me a Coffee---DISCLAIMER:The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are that of the creator and do not necessarily reflect that of any of the guests on this show. INTERVIEW: "Trail of the Lost" with Andrea Lankford

INTERVIEW: "Trail of the Lost" with Andrea Lankford
A couple of years ago, I did a series on Kris Fowler, who went missing hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in 2016. One of the interviews I did right before the series came out was with former Park Ranger Andrea Lankford, who wrote the bestseller "Ranger Confidential." At the time, Andrea alluded to me that she was researching another book about missing persons on the PCT. Well, Andrea's latest book, "Trail of the Lost: The Relentless Search to Bring Home the Missing Hikers of the Pacific Crest Trail" comes out this month and looks at the disappearances of Kris Fowler, Chris Sylvia, and David O'Sullivan, all who went missing while through hiking the Pacific Crest Trail.I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of Andrea's book and read it this summer. It's a riveting story, incredibly well-written and exhaustively researched. Her book, "Trail of the Lost," comes out on August 22, 2023; you can find it on Amazon or where you get your books. I talked with Andrea about the book, her writing journey, and why people go missing on the PCT. Here's my chat with Andrea.---Support the show on PatreonSupport the show on Buy me a Coffee---DISCLAIMER:The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are that of the creator and do not necessarily reflect that of any of the guests on this show. Twenty-eight-year-old Bernard "Bernie" Grempel went missing on May 14, 2021. I talked to his older sister Ettie Shurack who is searching for her Brother. His family is offering a $50,000 reward for anyone who can help bring Bernie home. Shurack also manages a Facebook group called "Bernard Grempel is Missing," where you can get up-to-date information in their search for Bernard. After two years of searching, Shurack worries about her Brother and says he is a well-liked and popular member of her family and community. If you have seen Bernard or know where he is, please call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
