Chapter 1: Raavan v/s Mandodari | Chitragupta Ki Sabha: Ramayan Edition

Kissey: An Anthology of Audio Dramas

02-07-2020 • 19 mins

In the very first chapter of Chitragupta Ki Sabha, the villain of Ramayana, demon Lord Raavan is questioned by his soft-spoken wife, Queen Mandodari.

Although considered docile and timid, she asserts herself and questions Raavan to answer for his crimes.

As the graceful queen recounts Raavan’s endless crimes including the abduction of Goddess Sita, the murder of countless humans, tortures on the Devtas, assaulting Rumbha and ultimately causing the annihilation of their entire clan, she doesn’t allow Raavan to justify his action on the false account of bruised ego and wit of words but holds him accountable.

Chitragupta, also known as Dharmaraj is the Lord who keeps records of one’s actions in their lifetime and decides their fate in the afterlife. In his mythical court, we have brought the characters from the great epic - Ramayana to make their case and answer some tough questions.

We all are aware of the story of Ramayana, the great victory of Vishnu-Avatar Shri Ram over the demon Lord Raavan but in this edition, we bring to you a twist. Many decisions, many actions in the story which seemed suitable for that era now appear to be redundant.

In this audio-drama, the women of Ramayan will question the men of Ramayan, asking questions that were left unanswered in the epic. The men with their answers and justification bring a new, more relevant perspective to the epic.

The audio-drama is written and directed by Kanu Priya
