“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). John 3:16 is probably the most well known bible verse of all time. Children memorize it. Street corner preachers put it on signs. Quarterbacks write it on their eye black. Most of us can easily rattle it off without giving much thought to its meaning. God loved us so much that he was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to save us from death and give us eternal life. A Christian friend once told me that motherhood is a season of sacrifice. As moms, we set aside many of our own desires to nurture and care for our children. “Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say that the son of man is?’ And they said, ‘Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’ Simon Peter replied, ‘You are Christ, the son of the living God.’ And Jesus answered him, ‘Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! "Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly" (Proverbs 14:29). The anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. It doesn't even produce godliness in our kids. In fact, this week's passage tells us that when we rush to anger, we are exalting foolishness. Uggg. You know what it looks like.
