24. The Drug Cartel Kidnapping of Mauricio Gonzalez

A Study in Crime

Sep 24 2024 • 48 mins

Mauricio Gonzalez was selling eggs in Jalisco, Mexico when Francisco "El Blanco" Rivera arrived. He put a gun to Mauricio's head and told him that Mauricio's wife, Catalina, now belonged to Francisco. Mauricio was told to leave town, or he’d be killed. Going to the police was not an option because Francisco was the local boss of the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion – the local Mexican drug cartel. And he wanted Mauricio’s wife. In episode 24. The Drug Cartel Kidnapping of Mauricio Gonzalez, I speak with Daniel Cotter. Daniel Cotter is a Partner at Dickinson Wright PLLC, where he practices in a variety of areas of corporate law and litigation. He served as President of The Chicago Bar Association for the 2014-2015 bar year and is the former Chair of The Young Lawyers Section of The CBA. He was an adjunct professor at The John Marshall Law School. In fact, Dan graduated summa cum laude from The John Marshall Law School and also received a B.A. in Accounting from Monmouth College, magna cum laude. He is a frequent writer and presenter, and his book, The Chief Justices, was published in 2019.  He’s also a weekly columnist for the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin.
