It was a rough day at Camelback Ranch for Michael Kopech as the White Sox lost to the SF Giants, 6-3. Michael Kopech had a lot to say about his performance and it was not a surprise that he was disappointed. Kopech struggled to find the zone in his four innings of work. He got out of a few self-made jams but also gave up a three run homerun to cap off a tough day. Sox offense did not do much to help him out. Seby Zavala and Romy Gonzalez each had a homerun. Eloy Jimenez played in his second game in a row since returned to action after the leg cramp issue earlier in the week. Jimenez said he left the game for precautionary reasons and feels very good. Mailbag Wednesday: The Chicago White Sox will win 90 games and win the AL Central... if healthy. MLB.com made some AL Central predictions recently and they like the White Sox to finish in first place and win 90 games. The prediction, of course, is reliant on a healthy roster. Are the recent injuries to Yoan Moncada and Eloy Jimenez a fluke or is there serious concern? Jimenez should be back in the lineup on Wednesday and Moncada is still day-to-day but maybe, just maybe these recent injuries are just that: injuries. Yoán Moncada and Eloy Jiménez are day-to-day as the injury bug has made it's annual visit to the White Sox. Getting out of spring training without any player ailments seems like an impossible mission. The White Sox have been fairly healthy until a few days ago. Moncada collided with a teammate during the USA/Cuba game and has a bruised rib. Then on Monday, Jimenez, left the game early due to a cramp in his right calf. Both players are day-to-day however both players have a history of spring training injuries that have forced them to miss considerable regular season games. If the Sox do not decide to use a closer by committee then Reynaldo Lopez should get serious consideration for the 9th inning role. Either way, Lopez will get plenty of action this season in high leverage situations. New kid on the block, Andrew Benintendi has had a quiet spring but manager Pedro Grifol does not focus a lot of time worrying about him. The Chicago White Sox ended the weekend on a high note and Oscar Colas hit his third HR of the spring. The White Sox beat the Seattle Mariners on Sunday afternoon by a score of 6-2. Dylan Cease got the start. He went four innings and only gave up one while striking out six. It was a rough first inning but he definitely got better as the game went on. Seby Zavala had a HR and a double. Michael Kopech saw action on Saturday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was not as sharp as he was in his first outing but Kopech refused to give up an earned run in his two plus innings of work. Mike Clevinger pitched on Friday against the Cubs. He gave up a pair of home runs but seemed to be working on some specific things during the 65 pitch outing and was not fazed. There are millions of reasons why Leury Garcia will be on the 2023 Chicago White Sox team. Have you tried to predict the reserve infielder spot for the upcoming season? Hanser Alberto has had a pretty good spring and seems to have a major advocate in manager Pedro Grifol. The Chicago White Sox bullpen has a few question marks but here's doubt about the importance. White Sox manager, Pedro Grfiol, has reiterated that the Sox will not have a 'ninth inning guy' but will approach the closer role based on matchups and scenarios. The pitch clock will definitely help pitchers to get out of their head and into a rhythm but max effort pitchers might suffer from a lack of time to recover. With limited moments between pitches and in between innings, starting pitchers will have to manage their stamina which means the bullpen will be extremely important, especially early on in the season. Oscar Colas added a pair of home runs to his spring resume and Michael Kopech shined in his debut for the White Sox. The Sox had a little but of everything happen this past weekend. They beat the Chicago Cubs, lost to the San Diego Padres and tied against the Los Angeles Angels. Lucas Giolito and Michael Kopech turned in very solid outings. Kopech looked in command and controlled any first game jitters he had by throwing a perfect three innings on Sunday. Jake Burger continues to try and hit his way on the ball club. He blasted two home runs this past weekend. Up until this past weekend, Oscar Colas has had an impressive spring but zero home runs. Colas changed that on Saturday when he blasted a pinch hit home run, then followed it up with another home run run on Sunday. Pedro Grifol brought in many of the coaches that round out his staff. Dylan Cease had an extremely short and frustrating outing again the Kansas City Royals. He was tagged for 11 runs in just two-thirds of an inning. Cease could not locate his breaking stuff... or really any of his stuff for that matter. Cease took his outing in stride and does not seem overly concerned. He has liked his bullpen sessions and at the end of the day, he's got his health. On Thursday, the White Sox went with what appeared to be a very secondary lineup against Team Columbia. The Sox lost by a score of 5-4. Thankfully, it's just the spring. There is more praise for Hanser Alberto, the journeyman infielder that is trying to make the team. Opening Day is in three weeks. How are you feeling about the Chicago White Sox since Spring Training began? This question was presented on social media and there were many, many responses. Hanser Alberto continues to make the most out of his opportunity with the Chicago White Sox in AZ. Since Elvis Andrus rejoined the Sox, there are not as many position battles as fans anticipated. One particular battle is for the utility role. The White Sox have options and are of course looking for versatility with not only the bat but also the glove. The Chicago White Sox got their first win of the spring and Jake Burger hit another massive home run. Burger hit a 6th inning bomb to dead center. It was his second home run of the spring. His power has never been in question but his defensive inabilities have left him on the outside looking in. Burger has been playing first base this spring and his hoping to force his way on the roster. With the help of Burger's blast and 15 hits in total, the White Sox beat the Seattle Mariners on Monday by a score of 10-1. Yasmani Grandal had a pair of hits, as did Andrew Vaughn. Oscar Colas saw action as well. Colas has played in every game so far. Sox used seven pitchers and starter, Jesse Scholtens, was the only Sox arm to give up a run. White Sox cleaned things up defensively and also practiced some plate discipline. Sox only struck out five times on Monday while also drawing five walks. Hope springs eternal as Chicago White Sox baseball is finally back. Yes, it's just spring training. Yes, the games don't count. Yes, it might matter very little. Eloy Jiménez really, really wants to play right field for the Chicago White Sox. Jiménez dropped 25-30 pounds this past offseason and has been putting a lot of work in the outfield with hopes he can spend more of his time in right field than on the bench waiting for his opportunity to hit.
