We are delighted to present the 3rd full Episode of Season 2 of our bite-sized leadership podcast, Getting Real. This season we focus on Women in Leadership, and in this episode our CEO, Afsheen Ismail-Wey MBA, PCC, CPCC speaks to Sophie Bond, Head of European HR Business Partnering at LKQ Europe, on employee mental health, psychological safety and new ideas for creating work life balance.

The need and strategic value of Psychological Safety at the workplace is evidenced in a variety of studies:

1 - A healthy work environment sees a 56% boost in productivity and a considerable amount of reduction in turnover to around 50%. (IPSOS)
2 - Employees who feel safe psychologically at their workplaces are less likely to leave. (Betterup)

3 - 89% of adults feel it is essential that their workplace should be safer and respectful. (Pew Research)
4 - Interestingly female business leaders have an advantage over male leaders when it comes to creating safe workplaces (48% vs. 37%). (Pew Research).

And while leaders and organizational behavior experts are making efforts to make workplaces more psychologically safe, it remains that there is more to do.

1. As per The Gallup’s State of the American Workplace Report, only 33% of workers feel psychosocially satisfied at their workplaces.

2 - Only 47% of Global Employees are affirmative that their Workplace is Psychologically Safe and Healthy. (IPSOS)
3 - Just 26% of leaders are able to create psychological safety for their teams. (Mckinsey & Company)
