Pink Phoenix Pop In
Hi Superheroes, I’m Pink Phoenix coming to you live from Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine for another pop in to VetaHumanz Live!Today I’m going to tell you about our SuperPower Pack program. SuperPower Packs are self-guided, educational experiences for under-resourced kids in Kindergarten through 4th grade who are participating in our programs. Each SuperPower Pack contains an activity to help kids engage in veterinary careers so they can develop a sense of belonging to the profession; develop self-efficacy (“I can be a veterinary professional”) and seed career expectations (“I will be a veterinary professional”). They also get a letter from one of our VetaHumanz and their collectible card. We ask the kids to take on the persona of the veterinary superhero and borrow their superpowers while they are playing. This is based on the incredible Batman Effect research of Dr. Rachel White and team (see reference below). We have developed and delivered 3 superpower packs so far. The Stat! SuperPower Pack features an emergency veterinarian superhero. With the Do You Have Diarrhea? SuperPower Pack kids learn about the causes of diarrhea in people and their animals and how to stay healthy. The Vaccines SuperPower Pack, helps kids learn about how vaccines give people and their animals superpowers to fight germs. SuperPower Packs aren’t for sale and have limited available to kids in our programs at this time, but everyone can download the book that comes in the Vaccine Superpower pack for free on our website! You can learn more about superpower packs on The League’s website under the “Get your SuperPowers " link. Thanks to NIH, NIGMS, SEPA award and follow-on support by our sponsors, Hill’s, Zoetis, Compassion-First, NVA, AAVMC, and Mars Veterinary Health we’ve delivered over 8,800 Superpower Packs to kids so far. Stay tuned for the release of our next superpower pack.As always, we’d love to hear from you.
