The pattern of violence and kidnapping that has been sweeping across northwest Nigeria has been confusing to say the least. There didn’t seem to be rhyme or reason to it until we came across a book written by Anja Shortland. In this mini episode, we attempt to place the events happening in northwest Nigeria in the context of protection theory and well...the situation is (to put it mildly) not good.
