In each podcast episode, we give you our perspective on what's happening on YouTube, we share our perspective based on experience and discuss the strategies behind monetizing and building audiences online. About the hosts: Carlos Pacheco is currently the director of OTT strategy at Just for Laughs. After a career in advertising and marketing, he joined Just for Laughs as a digital director using his SEO and marketing experience to help grow its YouTube network. Following that he joined Boat Rocker Media where he helped build a channel network and internal rights management. After, he joined his wife to help co-manage Truly Inc, a content strategy firm in Toronto. YouTube opportunities continued to knock on his door so he returned to consulting and then JFL came calling back to work on OTT and FAST channel management. Denis Crushell is The Chief Commercial Officer of Precise TV, he previously worked as Chief Revenue Officer at Tubular Labs. Prior to that, h was Head of EMEA Sponsorships at YouTube. I also held various commercial leadership roles at Google. Denis has a lot of background in the online video advertising space and the creator economy from my time at Tubular Labs. read less

Summer has arrived and everyone is excited things are opening up. Carlos has spent enough money during the quarantine to start his own gym!  Tom finally gets his hot tub!  Yes, you read that right!... it makes sense since he’s in a world of copyright claims, disputes, ownership conflicts with his new movie channel  The Midnight Screening. As if that’s not enough to deal with, Tom decides to launch a new podcast called The Pro Channel Manager Podcast, aimed at pro YouTubers and professional channel managers looking to level up their skills. Covering topics such as keyword research,  rights management, channel audits, interviews, and much more.  Lots going on in YouTube land as YouTube continues to clean house, demonetizing and canceling YouTubers. YouTube has temporarily suspended ads on all three of Shane Dawson channels. Liza Koshy & David Dobrik have apologized for making racially insensitive jokes in past videos. 3 months into lockdown restrictions are loosening up and things are seemingly back to normal. CPM’s are back up and stabilizing, everyone’s happy! Until a few of the YouTube channels we work on experienced a significant drops in traffic.  After a little poking around, a post on Reddit and with the help of TubeBuddy’s channel metrics tool, Carlos noticed quite a few channels are affected. The boys put on their tinfoil hats and discuss YouTube’s new “Viewer Satisfaction” metric and its effects. Tom launches The Midnight Screening, his new youtube channel, a “Movie” channel no less, and is already victim to a takedown! 😒 Carlo’s baby, Just For Laughs hits 10 million subs. As COPPA rules came into play on YouTube creators, saw a  once-lucrative kids channel revenue drop exponentially, forcing them to look for new opportunities.
