He quickly gained recognition for his quick-witted lyrics and powerful delivery, and he was eventually discovered by Dr. Dre, who was then part of the hip hop group N.W.A.Curry joined N.W.A in 1987, and he made his recorded debut on their debut album, Straight Outta Compton (1988). He wrote or co-wrote several of the album's tracks, including "Gangsta Gangsta" and "The D.O.C.". His debut solo album, No One Can Do It Better, was released in 1989 and was produced by Dr. Dre. The album was a critical and commercial success, and it established Curry as one of the most promising new rappers in the industry.However, just as Curry's career was taking off, he was involved in a serious car accident in 1989. The accident left him with a crushed larynx and impaired vocal cords.
