It was a Tuesday night at the Chuck E. Cheese in Aurora, Colorado when Margaret Kohlberg, 50, Sylvia Crowell, 19, Ben Grant, 17, Colleen O’Connor, also 17, and 20-year-old Bobby Stephens were working the late shift. They didn’t know it, but a man with a gun was hiding in the bathroom. When the mass shooting was over, four people lay dead and a fifth badly wounded. The shooter’s total haul was less than $1,600 and the entire manic episode lasted less than five minutes. Most shocking . . . the mass murderer was only 19 years old. On the morning of May 26, 1990, Marlene Warren was finishing breakfast with her son and his friends when she heard a knock on their front door. The 40-year-old mother of two wasn’t expecting anyone but answered the door anyway. She was greeted by someone wearing a clown costume and white face paint, clutching a flower arrangement and foil balloons. Marlene was delighted at the cheerful sight. Then, suddenly, everything changed. Moments later the clown pulled out a gun, aimed it at her face, and pulled the trigger. It seems like everyone is wearing an Apple Watch or FitBit to count steps and reach health goals. In the case we examine in this episode, the victim’s wearable technology was actually used as a tool to try to solve her murder. Two days before Christmas in 2015, 39-year-old mother of two Connie Dabat was found shot to death in her Connecticut home. As detectives scrambled for answers, a small device worn on her hip was key in learning the truth about her death. On the early morning of November 13, 2022, four University of Idaho students settled down in their beds after a night out. Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Kaylee Goncalves, and Madison Mogen never awoke to have breakfast together that morning, as expected. Sometime after 4 AM, an intruder entered the house on King Road and murdered all four University of Idaho students, and then vanished. A character actor who appeared in over 100 films and TV shows between the early 60s and late 80s, Robert Sorrells made a living playing bit parts in big productions: classics like Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Twilight Zone. No matter the plot, the roles typically ended the same for Sorrells―with his character either firing a bullet, or taking one himself. His early filmography reads like an advertisement for the NRA: Gunfight in Abilene, Mosby’s Marauders, Death of a Gunfighter, The Ride to Hangman’s Tree. In a disturbing case of life imitating art, Sorrells, at the age of 74, gunned down two men at a bar near his home in Simi Valley, California, killing one and badly wounding the other. His victim: A 45-year-old painting contractor and father of one. The shocking July 2004 murder shined a spotlight on the psychology of aging actors, and begged the question: did a lifetime of being around fake movie violence make Sorrells more inclined to commit the real-life kind? Plain and simple, she despised her young son and put him through years of neglect and abuse. Pearl’s boyfriend took part in the abuse …until it escalated to a point at which young Gabriel’s body had sustained all it could take. There were multiple cries for help, multiple red flags and blatant signs, and multiple reports of abuse. Kelsey Turner was the kind of woman who drew people in without trying. Her bleach-blonde hair and hourglass figure made her a natural model. In a sea of beautiful California women, though, modeling gigs weren’t plentiful enough to support her expensive tastes. Like many young women nowadays, she turned to online sites to sell amateur photos.  By doing so, Kelsey caught the attention of many admirers. Among them was prominent psychiatrist Dr. Thomas Burchard. Despite pushing 70, he was infatuated with 25-year-old Kelsey and offered her ample financial perks to keep her happy.  But the doctor’s attraction for Kelsey began to seriously cloud his judgment. It turned out his giving, sympathetic nature only made him more vulnerable to dangerous predators. In February of 2005, a homicide was linked to Bobby sending Von Dutch into a downward spiral and the victim’s family on a quest for justice.
