It is MLB Opening Day as the Pirates get set to play the Reds. Chris had some optimism on the 2023 campaign. He doesn’t think the record matters a ton this year, but he expects to see improvement from a handful of young guys on the roster. Donny thinks this roster is set for over 75 wins this year and should be a firm playoff team in 2025.
Baseball writer John Perrotto joined the show. John gave us a preview of his thoughts on what the Pirates can be in 2023. He said the Buccos have more legitimate guys in the lineup. He thinks Oneil Cruz can be a 30/30 guys with 30 homers and 30 steals. John talked about how the pitch clock will make a difference in more aspects than just the time of the game. John has hopes for a nice bounce back season for Ke’Bryan Hayes after some struggles in 2022. John had the scoop for some minor league guys we could say make their debuts this season, including Quinn Priester and Mike Burrows to help with starting pitching. John thinks Roansy Contreras will emerge as the ace in this rotation this season.
