The apostle Paul's prayer for the Ephesian Church was that they be rooted in the love of God. That is the word of the year for Rise this year, ROOTED. Next up on Jesus's lineage is the woman Rahab. Rahab lived in the town of Jericho and helped the israelite spies find safety. Next up on Jesus' geneology is Jacob. Jacob has a complicated life; it's full of working and scrapping his way to the top. He steals his brother's blessing and birthright, he works his way to great financial wealth and the family he wants but it all catches up with Jacob when he realizes he is going to have to come in contact with brother. Jacob's identity was wrapped up in the things he could control, but he couldn't control how his brother was going to receive him. It's from this point that Chase takes us on the journey of what Jacob's surrender looks like. He needs to let go and trust that he is not the same Jacob from his youth but he is now who God has called him to be all along. In our new series, "Origins," we will be diving into the lineage of Jesus. This week Chase described what Abraham did when he walked by faith. Abraham built altars. Chase dives into 4 different types of altars Abraham built: the altar of promise, presence, purpose, and provision. Abraham built altars to remind him what God had spoke to him even when it didn't seem like those promises would be fulfilled. We pray that this message brings hope and light to you. This week is a part two to last weeks sermon on how to reach people and lead them to Jesus. This week Chase focuses on leaning in to the hard conversations. You don't have to be argumentative; actually don't be argumentative, you will loose your influence. We look at the book of Acts and how Paul was able to reach a pagan community. He lead with curiousity and questions. Then proceeded to moved onto the true aching in their hearts, the need for a savior. How do we lead people to Jesus without making it weird? We are moving into a post christian world where our friends, colleagues, and family members not only don't believe in Jesus but also don't want to talk about it either. We find ourselves saying "now what?" Chase goes into different ways that God wants to use us to make a difference in the people we encounter every day. We don't have to be weird, we can be normal.
