Plato's Republic is arguably THE foundational text of the Western tradition in philosophy. Book One introduces the theme, Justice, in the form of a Socratic dialogue attempting to define it, as well as a consideration of its practical effects for human life, both individually and corporately. Note Plato's (in the form of Socrates) profound opposition to the ethical relativism of Thrasymachus, a Sophist, who claims that power and oppression always go hand-in-hand, as many claim today. This is the fourth installment of Book I. Enjoy!
