While we both prepped for, and manifested, a home birth, Katherine’s hope for a peaceful out-of-hospital birth took a wild turn after an unexpected medical complication arose and did not stabilize. Hear why she fired her first provider, was fired by her second provider, then switched providers from home birth midwives to an OBGYN a week before her baby boy was born. You will hear how she stood her ground and still exercised her birth rights despite her dwindling options.
You will also hear how April applied everything she learned about physiological birth from months of research and childbirth education, to put mind over body and birth her baby at home despite a very close call during late labor, along with a period of dysfunctional pushing which nearly required a hospital transfer. Find out what April told her back-up OB and how her team of midwives and doulas gave her the clarity and support she needed to get out of her thinking brain and into her primitive brain to bring her baby earth-side.
Our births could not be more different, and we each overcame obstacles even our research and prep could not have prepared us for in advance.
It goes without saying that every mom is grateful to have a healthy baby, however our birth experiences as mothers also matter and have a lasting impact. Knowing your options and having the confidence to speak up can be the difference between an empowered and informed birth and one that leaves you at the mercy of your practitioner’s wishes.
