This chapter focusses on empathy, love and special relationships. We have been taught to show empathy for one another. The course states that empathy is an ego function that only teaches us that we wish to seek out the weaknesses in one another. That sharing in another person's pain and suffering is only perpetuating the illusion that pain and suffering is real. It also explains how we have created conditional love in place of the love that our Creator has given us. His love is perfect and unconditional. We did all of this through the creation of "special love relationships". These relationships are built on conditional love, hate and pain. These relationships are created in time with the condition of time at its core. Perfect Love was created by God in eternity, with no attachment to time or anyone or thing.
