This game however was lost late in the second period where the Panthers gave up 3 goals in 2:01 where there were constant miscommunications with their defense corps, and Alex Lyon just could not make that "game changing save." The Panthers were without F Anthony Duclair and Sam Bennett on Tuesday night against Philadelphia, but the sky is not falling for the Panthers as for the time being, they do not control their own destiny(could change with a Pittsburgh loss of any kind tonight vs. Colorado). On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to discuss the Panthers 5-2 road win against the Detroit Red Wings where the Panthers have swept the season series(and have won 9 straight over Detroit). Panthers never trailed after getting two goals in the first 12 minutes as they had the territorial advantage early and often. Detroit cut the lead to 1 multiple times on Monday night, but the Panthers had a response every single time. It was a record setting night where Aleksander Barkov became the all time leader in points for the Florida Panthers player with 614(passing Jonathan Huberdeau). Barkov got the secondary assist on Gustav Forsling's goal in the 2nd period to make it 3-1 at the time to give him the record. However, Monday night was more than just a win for the Panthers in Detroit. Along with the Pittsburgh Penguins losing to the Ottawa Senators at home, which means that the Panthers are now currently in the final Wild Card Spot in the Eastern Conference with 12 games to go. Carter Verhaeghe gets a two goal night as he is now 4 goal away from 40 goals. Matthew Tkachuk got 3 points on the night where he now has the record for most multi-point games in Panthers History. However, Monday was the front end of the back-to-back, so the Panthers have to quickly turn the page and turn their attention to the Philadelphia Flyers, who the Panthers have seen since the last week of October. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is joined by Nick Fairbanks(@Prudentia0) to discuss the Panthers' manhandling of the Montreal Canadiens. Panthers were down early in the first period 16 seconds in, tied the game quickly, and it was a back and forth afair for the first 8 minutes of the first period. After that, it was the Panthers with "all gas, no breaks" as they scored 4 unanswered goal over the next 5-6 minutes, basically putting the game out of hand. It was a franchise record 7 goals in one period for the Panthers, and that was with the Cats allowing 3 goals on 3 shots to start the game. Yet it was the Panthers with the 4-goal lead after the first 13 minutes. Panthers have scored on the Power Play again against Montreal(8/18 on the season vs. MTL) and also set a franchise record for goals for against a single opponent through 3 games played at 22. Matthew Tkachuk with another 3-point night(3 straight games with 3 points) and now is one of 5 Florida Panthers to reach 90 points. Panthers fell behind by 2 goals for the second consecutive game. Also for the second consecutive game, they used a 3rd period come back to get the game into overtime, only this time coming on the losing end. Matthew Tkachuk with another 3-point night(2,1) for the Panthers helps lead the comeback for Florida. Saturday had 5 of the 9 goals score on the Power Play. Panthers shot themselves in the foot by going to the penalty box 4 times in the 1st period. Armando and Alex discuss the stretch that the Panthers have played since 2/20 and how they'll need a similar stretch they'd need(possibly even better) in the last 15 games if they want to qualify for the postseason. Panthers got a net positive as far as Saturday Night's result, but now unfortunately with the games in hand being made up, so are the teams that we need to keep an eye on in the scoreboard watch. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Nick Fairbanks(@prudentia0) is back and joins Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) to discuss the Panthers 4-3 OT win over the Chicago Blackhawks. Panthers with some mental errors early in the first period caused them to go down 2-0 after 1. Panthers went to the penalty box 6 times in the game, but stopped the Blackhawks going 6/6 on the PK. The Cats controlled play for the whole game but struggled with puck retrieval despite having the territorial advantage early on.
