It's the seventh week of the summer preview for the 2022-23 North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball roster. We have finished the freshmen (Seth Trimble, Jalen Washington, Tyler Nickel, Will Shaver), the transfer (Pete Nance) and we now finish the sophomores with guard / forward Dontrez Styles. Styles is a 6'6", 210-pound guard/forward from Kinston, North Carolina.
While not playing a large number of minutes due to the Iron Five's dominance over playing time, Styles became one of Coach Davis' trusted reserves down the stretch. His most memorable moment from the season was his three-pointer that started overtime against Baylor in the 2nd Round of the NCAA Tournament. Styles has made a name for himself due to his athleticism and ability to affect the game in multiple ways, including guarding multiple positions. Where he'll need to grow is in his shooting ability to help stretch the floor as Coach Davis will no doubt want to continue to do.
Styles won't crack the starting five - that will go to Armando Bacot, Pete Nance, Leaky Black, Caleb Love, and RJ Davis. He should carve out another solid backup role as a sophomore before exploding as an upperclassman.
Host Isaac Schade and Coach Pac Kilby take you through Styles' game as well as expectations for the upcoming season.
