The NCAA is considering ending the one-time transfer waiver in favor of student-athletes being allowed to transfer as many times as they would like within their years of eligibility, while being granted immediate eligibility. This news is pending a vote, which will happen in August. Host Isaac Schade is not thrilled with the news and unpacks his thoughts on it.
The NCAA is also considering adding transfer portal open windows during which student-athletes would be able to declare their intentions to transfer. Under the proposal, each sport season (fall, winter, spring) would have a specific 60-day during which student-athletes could enter the transfer portal. For winter and spring sports, this will be the 60 days immediately following that specific sports’ championship selection announcement. For fall sports, it will be the 45 days immediately following the championship selection announcement plus May 1-15.
North Carolina’s men’s basketball team returns the main core of their 2021-22 roster intact, bringing back starters RJ Davis, Caleb Love, Leaky Black, and Armando Bacot, along with reserves Puff Johnson, Dontrez Styles, D’Marco Dunn, and Justin McKoy. ESPN’s Jeff Borzello ranked the Tar Heels 4th on his list of national roster retention heading into the 2022-23 season. Coach Hubert Davis and his staff did a great job re-recruiting the team.
